Political event
The Astrean Empire was born out of the Kingdom of Astrea, which controlled only a small part of the western continent.
Following a tumultuous period of revolutionary ideas, a former general of the army sought control. The provisional republic government was frail and was already experiencing large amounts of monetary inflation and large amounts of banditry and organized crime. Vilhel, then called Vilhel Donzel was a general in the army of the Kingdom of Astrea before the collapse. Famously, he marched up to the senate building, shot the leader of the senate, and declared that nobody could leave until the nation was saved. 7 hours later, a new country was formed with Vilhel as its leader, with dictatorial powers over most of the country and army. He renamed himself Vilhel von Astrea, as most of the kings had done previously, and began a great conquest of the lands to the west, "I will go until my empire stretches to the sea, and then I will rest." Vilhel the Conqueror managed to expand the empire greatly over the 12 years of conquest, adding the colonial power of Hiztan, and their colonies in Nautillius, along with several other minor powers in the region. After his death, the empire, in its failing administration, growing coalition to the east, and the burden of unruly colonial elite fell to Vilhel's son, Chrysten von Astrea, but that is a story for another time.
