First day of the war

The Explorer that entered the gate never got out. Instead, twelve hour after the opening, a flurry of unidentified lifeforms invaded the control room, firing at everything that moved. Taken aback, the security measures were insufficient and the complex was taken over almost instantly, despite the best effort of the two Explorers on site.

Considering the unprecedented aspect of the situation, the I.D.E.A. reacted with a rare speed. In only a few hours they revealed and activated the contingency plan I-84 that contained guidelines in case of invasion of a dimension by an alien force that could not be reasoned with. The entire population was evacuated through the interdimensional gateways that had not been taken over by the Enemy.

To ensure the success of the massive exodus, the eight Explorers on duty unleashed their whole power on the invaders, with no care for material or collateral damage. They all eventually lost their life in the battle, but not before they saved over 4 billions civilians. Despite their feat and the admirable ratio, this event is known as "the worst financial decision in the history of the Exploration" in the I.D.E.A.'s internal documents.

From exodus to diaspora

No single dimension was equipped to welcome that many refugees, and the Grithirs, the people of Grith, were separated from one another, led to live wherever people accepted them. Deprived of their home, scarred by a threat that will inevitably find them again, Grithirs have spread throughout the Dominium. Now, nearly every dimension shelters a community from Grith.

They have their own culture, reimagined from what was salvaged in the invasion, and a form of paranoia that makes it harder for them to integrate. They tend to inhabit the districts closest to the evacuation gates and possess very little belongings, ready to evacuate again at the first signs of danger.
