Weapon Proficiencies

Unlimited Blade Works!

In the voice of the resident blacksmithing god.   For the long-awaited weapon proficiencies, pups. Every class is proficient in different weaponry. Those who don't use their claws, tails, wings, and whatever other freaky appendage at their disposal. If you need a frame of reference, return to the Armor Proficiencies page. There's a lot of overlap.

Main/Off Hand

To properly use your armaments, you need to equip it to yourself. There's the main and off-hand. You can probably assume what the difference is. Beyond certain class privileges, you can only equip one-handed weapons to your main or off-hand. You need both hands to equip two-handed weapons. Somewhat related, but yes, you can take things out of your inventory while fighting.

Swapping

During your combat career, you may find the need to change to switch your weapons. Maybe you brought the wrong enchanted item or somehow lost your fighting implement. Regardless, rectifying the mishap is possible. It takes one action to pull out and use consumables or small items. Pulling out a one-hand weapon takes two actions while grabbing a two-hand weapon takes three. Yes, your action can get canceled if you change before an enemy. Get cover, pup.

Types

Weapons come in multiple flavors. Quickly summing it up, we have melee, range, and magical. Melee weapons typically come in cutting, piercing, and smashing variants, with upsides and downsides. The range is a category that involves the usage of ammunition. Magical weapons often take properties from their user to function, leading to irregular damage types. While it is possible to obtain different damage types from the other categories, it takes effort to do so.

Misc

Your armaments are not immortal objects. Take care of them. While not sentient, it is good to gain familiarity with them. If something isn't working, try something else. Careful testing goes a long way. It may be possible to use weapons that you aren't familiar with. But it will take longer to adjust to them. There's an absurd amount of equipment that can help you. But there isn't enough time in the day to go over them. It is a general overview, after all. Go out and look.     With that, toss a coin to your blacksmith. Will you?
