Rats Within Walls - Prologue

Start Here

This is an experimental storytelling experience using the tools provided by Worldanvil. I'm using the experiment to eventually include this method in my main world so feel free to leave any feedback or suggestions you feel like.
Take a sit reader. Grab a pair of d6's (six-sided dice), pen and paper (or open a notebook and random number generator) and follow the instructions below before starting.

Premisse

The content of this category is a combination worldbuilding article/ choose your own adventure book which combines the exploration of you as a character in the story and the exploration of the world of you as (presumably) a living person. The main character of the story is directed by you and the choices you make will lead you through an (admittedly) somewhat limited scenario where you will face obstacles and plot point for you to interact with.

As you read through this story, possible actions, choices and descriptions will be presented to you in the form of links to other articles or spoiler boxes. Simply click the link or spoiler box which relates to whatever choice or action you would like to take to continue the story. If, at any point, The action you would like to take is not an option or you find the descriptions available are lacking, leave a comment regarding that.

Other instructions will be given to you directly (usually telling you to change something about your character, see below) in the form of italic bold style text. As a free-willed individual, you are free to ignore that, but the story is designed around the changes to your character.

Instructions

Now that the premise has explained, let me explain how to "play". As mentioned before the main character of this story will be created by you in the following manner:
  • For the purposes of this story your character has 3 attributes: Mind, Body and Soul. Roll 1d6 per attribute and add 6 to the result. Note down that number for each attribute.
During the course of the story there will be tests involving those attributes and they will be spent as you go along.
  • During the story you will be asked to make changes to your attributes. If at any point any of them reaches 0 or less, stop reading, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the link to the "you have died" article (not yet implemented, nevermind this part)
  • Mind represents the character's capacity to use logic and solve problems, as well as how well they recall events
  • Body represents the physical fortitude and stamina of the character
  • Soul measures how calm and composed the character is. Lower values mean that the character is stressed and losing sanity
  • During the story there might be spoiler boxes labelled "if X lower than Y", where X is an attribute (Mind, Body or Soul) and Y is a value. If you see one of those boxes and your character's attributes fit the description, click the spoiler box and follow the instructions. Otherwise, ignore it and carry on reading.
  • During the course of the story you will be able to pick up and carry objects. To pick up an object simply note down that you are carrying it, you might be able to use it in the future.
For the purposes of this story I recommend you limit your inventory to two items at a time (note down the article where you've left an item and mentally add that bit into the description of the room if necessary)… but it's your character so feel free to ignore this
  • During the course of the adventure there will be sections that tell you to test an attribute to decide the outcome of an action or event. When that happens, roll the number of d6's stated there (or click the roll dice button) and compare it with your attribute: if the number rolled is higher than or equal to the attribute being tested, the test is considered a fail; otherwise you have succeeded. Further instruction will be given in spoiler boxes.

When you've noted down the attributes of your character, feel free to click the link below to start the adventure.   Rats Within Walls
