Gerudo

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gerudo bear a strong resemblance to the more abundant Hylian race. However, Gerudo have a uniformly darker skin tone, and always have red hair. Their eyes are usually golden, but are occasionally more exotic colors such as blue-green or violet. A typical Gerudo stands over 6 feet tall. They are almost universally female.

Genetics and Reproduction

Gerudo have four biological sexes (parthenogenic, childbearing, pollinators, and king, which occurs at a rate of one per century). Although they do have three genders--vii (parthogenic lineage), vai (women), and vi-kai (king) their social structures and customs do not organize by gender or recognize it in the same manner that other societies do. Tribal affiliation is the important metric of both identity and how one interacts socially. Biological sex is only important when choosing a life partner (if children are desired) and gender is generally only important in the case of the king, and when interacting with non-gerudo.

Growth Rate & Stages

Gerudo reach adulthood in their late teens and rarely live beyond a century.

Ecology and Habitats

Gerudo are versatile, capable of living comfortably in all the land areas of Hyrule. Their primary living ranges are in the Gerudo Desert, in which the environment range includes desert, dry scrubland, windy plateau, mountains, and stormy coast.

History

It is widely believed that Gerudo were once a race as widespread and prosperous as Hylians, if not more so. Ruins of their kingdom are spread widely throughout the Gerudo Desert, named after them. Although Gerudo persevere, their numbers have been gradually declining for millennia. Tribal infighting and increasingly harsh environmental conditions have eroded their power and population.

Cultural Values

Altheticism, thriftiness and resourcefulness, resilience and toughness, respecting elders, cooperation, conformity

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Gerudo are a proud species, viewing their ability to overcome hardship as elevating them above the other "soft" races, especially in the inner territories of the desert, where little interaction with outsiders occurs. Relations have been notably strained with all races since the ascension of Ganondorf.

Ganondorf's Rise

Opinions on Ganondorf have been highly divided along tribe lines. Overall, the majority of Gerudo are either neutral or positive on the subject of Ganondorf, but only barely. Opinions include:

This is our great destiny! Our lives are hard and we deserve everything we can get. Full and vocal support.

He is our King. We trust in his Chosen Nature.

We supported him wholeheartedly in the initial power grab but his methods and lack of improvements to our lives have given us doubts. We still generally are in support of him but no longer wholeheartedly.

We are a desert people and we should not be going elsewhere. We are losing our Way Of Life by doing this. Vocal opponents.

We were skeptical when he first proposed this (or outright against it) and now we have evidence that this is abhorrent. He is corrupt, and should be gotten rid of.

Against, but what can we do? He is our King!
