Owlan
Owlan was one of the Knight Academy instructors and had great knowledge of flying Loftwings. He was also a collector of various types of plants, which could be seen in his room at the Academy.
After Link's Crimson Loftwing went missing, Owlan became concerned and recommended that Link find it quickly. He also suggested that Link speak with Horwell, one of the instructors, as he was in charge of the Wing Ceremony.
Before the Wing Ceremony race, Owlan gave Link and three other Skyloft youths the instructions for the Ceremony. He attached a ceremonial Bird Statuette to a golden Loftwing and told the students that whoever caught the bird and claimed the statue would be this year's champion. Giving quick instructions on how to control the birds, he then went on to say that the champion would receive a gift from Zelda. Before the race began, he told Link and the three other Skyloftian youths to show him just how well they had practiced and asked to see "good, clean flying" without interference from the other flyers. Then, upon his command, the competition began. If Link spoke to him before jumping off of the platform, he would scold the young hero and remind him that he was participating in a competition.
After Link received the Goddess Sword and resolved to visit the land below to find Zelda, Owlan expressed knowledge of the legendary blade and gave Link the Wooden Shield, explaining its properties. If Link did not have space to carry the Shield, Owlan would give him a Red Rupee instead.
Owlan later became a great source of information on Levias, the Sky Spirit. He told Link of the research Headmaster Gaepora ordered done and informed him that Levias was inside the Thunderhead. He also mentioned that Pumm made Pumpkin Soup as an offering to Levias every year but had not made the trip this year. Since the Sky Spirit had become infested with a parasite known as Bilocyte, Owlan taught Link and his Loftwing the Spiral Charge so that he could use it to attack the parasite plaguing Levias.
Later, after draining the flooded Faron Woods and learning Faron's portion of the "Song of the Hero," Link could talk to Owlan to discover that he feared he had collected every form of plant life in Skyloft. Link could take his request to find a new plant, which the young hero could find in the form of a Kikwi named Oolo in Faron Woods.
