Thül

A tall and quite large race of the east, the Thül are only considered semi-sapient in their abilities. They bare a significant resemblance to humans, walking on two legs, with two arms and hands capable of using tools. They even speak in a form of language. While with these traits however, they are a larger, more primitive race, with a sturdy build and short red fur across much of the body. Found in the Thülizza valley, full of open woodland, this race are sometimes captured by the Svotz and Silver Sun alike for lighter slave labourers tasks that colossataurs are considered too clumsy to perform. There are even rumours of slaves of this race finding their way into the Isles.

Basic Information

Anatomy

In many ways resembling humans, the most obvious difference between Thül and humans is in stature. Aside from this, their body is covered in red fur to camouflage with tree bark from local predators like rippers and felitaurs. They also possess a sharp, blade like extension on the outer side of their hands, used to both chop through tougher vegetation like bamboo, and as a defence weapon against predators, hunters and each other. The nose is proportionally larger and flatter than humans, almost like a centaur’s, while the ears and eyes are smaller. The molars are especially big, great at grinding hard plants, which they seem specially orientated towards, resulting in a strong bite. Having long legs to traverse distances well and thick arms to grasp their surroundings, they are very strong compared to humans and centaurs, capable of curling over 300kg with their arms.

Genetics and Reproduction

A twelve month gestation is common for this race.

Growth Rate & Stages

It takes about twenty-five years for them to grow to full maturity.

Ecology and Habitats

Found only in the open woodlands and plains in and around the Thülizza valley, they use their blade like nail to cut through grass to harvest, or to hunt smaller animals.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Mainly feeding on tough vegetation such as grasses and leaves, they have larger stomachs and teeth than humans have, rivalling those of centaurs. They also feed on grubs, termites and carrion when possible to supplement the diet. It is likely that they were once much more widespread until competition with the centaurs, which were faster, smarter and with better digestion, drove them into the Valley and it’s immediate surroundings.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dwelling in clans, they often wander around territories in search of food and water, waving off predators, the environment and rival clans.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Are sometimes captured and enslaved by surrounding nations for labour or as particularly intimidating security. A few have even found their way into the Isles, albeit secretly.

Facial characteristics

Short and wide noses, square jaws with large teeth. Pronounced brown ridge.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Mainly limited to the Thülizza Valley in western Porpuda, located between the Kingdom of Gold in the west, the Empire of the Silver Sun in the south, the Svotz Republic’s mainland colonies in the north, and the Myun Forest in the east. Live in a mix of grasslands and open woodlands.

Average Intelligence

Capable of tool use and relatively advanced social structures, they are more intelligent than any normal animal, but are not considered to be sapient by most civilisations, barring a few like the Kingdom of Gold and the Yamachai Isles who do consider them such, and Yamachai scholars even theorise they could become a civilisation if given the right stimuli. Though these scholars argue the same for colossataurs too, interestingly.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

With a larger size and deeper voice, along with a larger nose, they are more sensitive to low pitched noises than the sapient races besides Vrain, and so can be hard to understand even when taught basic human phrases.
