The Hunt

"Today I become more than myself.   Today I renounce desire and ambition for the sake of my brothers and sisters.   Today and forever more, no nation nor army may sway my dedication.   No longer do I strike in blind fury, nor cower in shrieking fear.   No longer do I struggle alone in the dark.   I am a finger of the measured hand.   I am a flame of the guiding light.   I am the cutting edge of the eternal blade.   I am the wrath of all Hylos.   I am the Hunt, and I fear no longer."   -Invocation of the Hunt, 2826
The Hunt is a transnational organization which takes it upon itself to execute offensive actions against the forces of the Elder Ones. Founded in the Fourth Era 2826 by Silena Rhaspor in the Northern Frontier of Altemos, it has since spread across all of Hylos, and boasts contingents in every nation of the races of Order.   While their duties primarily consist of offensive maneuvers against Elder Spawn and Children, they also provide local defenses, both long-term and siege-based, as well as education for surrounding communities teaching survival skills in the face of Elders and the Blight.   Though they faltered after the Fall of Rhaspor, their widespread chapters and localized nature provided the support they needed to stand strong, and since that point they have only grown stronger, launching large-scale raids against the Gateway, as well as the exposure and execution of smaller Elder Cults.

Structure

Leadership Structure

A Council directs the Hunt. It consists of a Master member of each clan-role, voted for by their respective clans, as well as a representative member of the research, development, logistical, educational, and political branches of the Hunt. Though not officially supported, the Master Vanguard is widely considered to be the external face and grandmaster of the Hunt, as Silena Rhaspor held this position herself.

Clan-Roles of the Hunt

The Hunt divides its warrior members amongst five clan-roles, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. At least one of each clan will be a member of a single squad, and each role is integral both to an individual squad and the Hunt as a whole.

The Vanguard

First into the frey and last ones out, the Vanguard specialize in extraordinarily agile close combat. While command duties of a squad tend to be split between Vanguard and the Pillar, true leadership falls almost exclusively on the Vanguard, requiring agility of both body and mind. They fight with ferocious, quick weapons both of steel and Thread, dodging multitudes of limbs to strike at vital regions. Widely considered the bravest clan, they also suffer the greatest casualties.   Clan Founder: Silena Rhaspor

The Hammer

Wielding weapons and Thread of great mass, the Hammer deals great blows to their prey, destroying attacks and dismemberment limbs aimed for both the Hammer and the Vanguard. In contrast to the light-footed Vanguard, the Hammer sheathes themselves in heavy armor, both physical and Nalistic.   Clan Founder: Finstrus Naltesia

The Arrow

The Arrow is the ranged counterpart to the Vanguard. Fast and accurate, the Arrow dances around the battlefield on light feet, piercing eyes and soft flesh and forcing jaws open with arrows and bolts. The eye and aim of the Arrow must be true, for their projectiles weave between other members of the Hunt to support them - without maiming them in the process.   Clan Founder: Nia Tethra

The Flame

The Arrow is to the Vanguard as the Flame is to the Hammer. The Flame brings unrelenting force in the form of brutal Nalistics, Threading destructive magics between their Huntmates and striking true their prey. Using far more advanced techniques than simple elemental weaponry, Flames twist both the Rift and their surroundings to their advantage, aiming to both incapacitate and horribly maim their prey.   Clan Founder: Taevas Sorthamal

The Pillar

At once the brains and backbone of a Hunt Squad, though to a lesser extent than the Vanguard, the Pillar is unique in the nebulous nature of their duties. Their role, in essence, is to be whatever is required to assist the squad's success. They jump between other roles as birds flit between trees, filling in for assault or support as required. In some chapters of the Hunt, the Pillar takes on a more apothecary-like nature, bathing their Huntmates in Hylantic energies. In others, they are guided towards more offensive roles. Across the full breadth of the Hunt, though, the Pillar is always valued for their improvisational talents.   Clan Founder: Votas Itainata
