The Rise of Champion Rothrak

Much of Champion Rothrak's life was a mystery, even before the Fall. He was a born wanderer and devotee of Mamuk, so he never stayed in one place for long. The snake man's freakish height and incredible strength made for easy starting points for tall tales, and his actual feats were no less legendary. As Champion Rothrak drifted around the world, legends would spring up in his wake. With his sense of humor, Rothrak was happy to embellish a tale in life, and so numerous tales about his life and origins spread around the world. At the height of his adventures, many of Champion Rothrak's deeds could actually be verified, and his greatest accomplishments were told in a more cohesive story. But his origins had a wide range of possible stories, most of which he thought were too entertaining to refute.

Summary

The most popular tale of Champion Rothrak's birth and rise to greatness begins before he hatched. It was said that his egg was on of a clutch in the darkest pits of the Ophidian Deep. His egg, of course being the largest, was stolen by a raiding black dragon who supposedly mistook the egg for that of a rival dragon's. He was hatched by the dangerous monster, but was able to tame it with the goodness of his heart (or he was able to slay it fresh from hatching, depending on the version). Taking up a long-lost legendary sword and shield from the monster's hoard, he set off into the world to begin his legendary life.

Historical Basis

Unfortunately, though no one in the present age has the knowledge to be disappointed, this myth about Rothrak is mostly untrue. While it is true that he slew several dragons in his time, Rothrak never claimed to have tamed one.

Spread

During his life, legends about Rothrak were spread far and wide. In death, these tales passed into myth. After the Fall, most knowledge of his existence, fact and fiction, disappeared entirely.

In Art

There are some artworks in long-sunken places that depict versions of his birth. One mosaic lost to Churn depicts a young Rothrak pinning a dragon with two arms while raising a greatsword in the other two.
