Session 15: The Stars Are Wrong

General Summary

The party will be able to finish exploring the mindflayer cave. They may be able to find some more information about Gephemassk if they continue to search his lab. If they wait a while, Wren will gain enough strength to tell her story, but not much else. When it comes down to it, the players will have to decide what they wish to do about Thywicket.
Currently, Gephemassk has had 2 extra nights to work on implanting the tadpoles without hindrance.
If the party decides to head back to Thywicket: The caterpillar is now cocooned about halfway. The strands of silk are forming a brilliant teal cocoon, which appears to be built around the internal buildings. The party can choose to either climb to a part that is uncovered, or cut through the back end of the casing. Going up will be easier, but they are more likely to be spotted, going through the cocoon will be harder but stealthier.

The party camped an extra night before continuing to explore the mindflayer cave. They returned to the cavern, and found the spawning pool. They found Thephani, and her star chart for a future era
Speak with dead on Thephani: the star chart was wrong no matter how many times she looked into the future, and she stated; “almost as if the world was no longer the right shape” When asked how to help with Folgorath's plan “Find the second partner, and kill them, I assume” Mentioned that there was only a single mindflayer left.
Afterwards, the party examined the rest of the tunnels. After poking around, they were drawn to the conclusion that the mindflayers slept in sarcophagi, and that the hastily replaced cocoon was the same size, and light enough to be carried by just the two men. The party debated what to do next. Ultimately, they chose to return to Thywicket in order to track down and slay the final mindflayer. They nearly guessed at the whole of Gephemassk's plan, but second-guessed themselves. None of the players have much meta-knowledge about mindflayers or intellect devourers in 5e, which prevented them from fully guessing at the plan. In the end, they (mostly) correctly guessed that Gephemassk (name unknown to them) intends to have the city undergo metamorphosis, while he rides it out in the safety of his sarcophagus.
As they decided, Khashayar's patron whispered to them from the forest, urging them to return to the city, from the flickering shadows. All could hear, all were seen. Visayan tried to fly up and cast Detect Magic where the shadows moved, but no magic lingered, and he could not see anything besides the wayward shadows. The session ended as they made their return to the city, in order to wait for the cover of night.
