He offers 4 choices: a weapon, knowledge, gold or power (a feat). The party will then be able to continue exploring the mind flayer cave.
Pendeghast has wandered off, using augury and scrying to navigate towards Wren. He left a note saying that he was unable to contact the party for hours and hours
… Not interested in continuing pointless dissections and vivisections. Now that I am Magos Biologis, I will choose our direction of research...
We already know that two heralds have awakened. We don't have time to quibble over this anymore. Action must be taken now. -Magos Biologis Gephemassk _________________________________________________________________
“Khashayar hears the screams of his people behind him, he turns only for a moment, then spurs his horse even faster.”
The party handily defeated the echo demon (none of them wear metal armor) and the peluda drakes. Kestrel regretfully chose to slay the unconscious drake he left, to finish the trial. Steps and Kestrel took feats Khashayar took knowledge of the Heralds Visayan took information about ways to prevent corruption. He learned that there is a druid in the coral forest who made a hallowed grove, and allied with a non-evil entity. He also learned that this entity has an equal and opposite counterpart stalking the region.
The party found that their marks had vanished upon returning (as they only last an hour) so they had to navigate back, and lost about six hours. Pendeghast was successful in auguring the correct tunnel, and marked it with chalk, so the party followed. They came upon the laboratory, and began their search. Steps found a broken bottle with a dried out tadpole, across from the dissection/ vivsection room. Khashsayar found the cage room for larger specimens, with Orlocke dead in the back, and a dead humanoid in one of the cages. Meanwhile, Visayan investigated the kennel room for the intellect devourers, and found the dead one and an unconscious (and one death throw away from permadead) Wren. He quickly called the others, and they healed Wren back to stability. With her safe, they looked with fresh eyes around the rooms, Visayan casting comprehend languages to learn that the room they were in had a placard with the intellect devourer population written in. Steps found a scrap of parchment caught in the corpse disposal chute, signed by Gephemassk, and brought that to be identified. Many of the documents had been taken by Orthol Clemont, but those left behind gave some more clues, namely that humanoids were being experimented upon, and the word “ceremorphosis” appearing on several. Finally, the session ended with Khashayar trying to investigate the corpse in the cage but failing (rolling a one, flavored as his instincts recoiling and urging him to flee). As the rest of the party entered and gave the body a look, they discovered the week-long dead body of a human partway through the process of transformation.
