Platanahand
This mysterious town hovers above the grass, floating a few feet above the deadly plants. Built upon a massive onyx hand, broken off from an ancient stature just past the wrist, the town of Platanahand quietly drifts toward resources. Wrist toward the ground, with the palm facing the sky, its pose suggest the statue was posed holding a small item, but the original piece has been lost for centuries. Now, a large crystal is suspended between the thumb and forefinger. Huts and town infrastructure climb up the other fingers, while trade, orations, and community events are held in the cool bowl of the palm.
The means of its hovering and propulsion are unknown, and most believe that it is held aloft by the final gift of a lost goddess, a final bit of divine grace left to an abandoned world.
Government
Platanahand is a theocracy, ruled by a high priest. Positions of importance are filled by appointment from the high priest, though the clergy generally works together to appoint people by skill and aptitude. The community of Platanahand is small and peaceable with a defined hierarchy and advancement system from before the Fall, so conflicts of power and influence are rare.
Infrastructure
The main community structures are the central market and the church.
History
The hand itself came from a statue in Old Regenne, from before the royal district peeled away from its city walls and marched along the coast. The statue was from the largest temple to Diam, part of a cyclopean cathedral to the Orodromic religion. The statue fell during the war against Sibriil, and at some point after the battle, the broken hand was first used as shelter. When the hand began to move, survivors from the city climbed aboard, and the first community of Platanahand came together. Salvaging pieces of their old homes, the people strapped the pieces to the fingers and set sail on the plains.
Over the years, many attempts have been made to study the force that keeps the onyx aloft. With little to no progress made, the people have contented themselves with assurances that divine grace from Diam keeps the people away from the grass. This has made the townspeople fervent worshipers of Diam, and makes it one of the last places in the world that still harbors a Pre-Fall religion.
