Moonlight-induced Spontaneous Mutation
Each moon weakens a layer of separation between the material world and Ethereum. If one of these astral membranes is thinned or punctured too deeply, the moon's light can pull through a corresponding type of energy. With a bombardment of radiant energy, a body on the material plane can be inundated with more energy than it can handle, causing rampant and spontaneous mutations that change physical structures of the body, or spiritual and arcane interactions with natural magic. Many species of monster first originated from lunar events causing mutations in living creatures from the material plane.
Manifestation
Each moon affects different aspects of material and magic, and each moon can cause spontaneous mutations if shining brightly enough. Although the exact mutations caused are impossible to truly predict, there are loose general trends that each moon may effect.
Moons in order from least to most likely to cause spontaneous mutation
Diam
Although Diam is the largest moon, it is the least likely to corrupt with its light. Generally, Diam's light only causes problems when heavily reflected or concentrated through a lens. As such, most documented mutations from this moon occur in snowy regions or salt flats, where the albedo effect reflects the white light. Generally, the mutations imbue magical ability and cognizance into plants and animals. This has been linked to the start of several sorcerous lines.Pala
Pala's blue light is generally soft, revealing the unknown and the unseen. When its touch burns too brightly, it sometimes causes creatures to gain the innate ability to become invisible. If it sears the eyes, subjects may be burdened with foresight, or improved abilities to find various things. These mutations take an ordered mind to control, otherwise the overlap between real and not yet real can drive a creature to insanity. Monsters created by this touch tend to gain a need to steal human treasures, physical or spiritual.Cor
When Cor is full and magnified, it can warp the mind as well as the body. Overexposure can induce frenzy, driven by rage, hunger, or lust. The body of an afflicted creature may change shape to fit to match the frenzy, sprouting claws and teeth, lengthening limbs, or causing rampant natural weapon growth. An incident with Cor exposure created the first werewolves.Trebol
The tiny moon of Trebol is usually overshadowed by its siblings, but when it is alone it has some strange effects. Creatures caught in its light seem to be pulled toward the green light. Animal and plant will merge, and people will become warp to fit the landscape. The green light seems to shed the man-made adaptations to an environment and replace them with mutations that endemic creatures have to an environment. Something about Trebol's presence seems to call up magic from the earth, and often imbues a mutated creature with access to nature magics.Brome
Any appearance of Brome is a guaranteed disaster. Brome directly interacts with Ethereal energies, releasing spirits into the world, and raising any undead its light touches. A living creature in contact with the light for more than a few moments is likely to gain mental or bodily corruption. Beasts caught in direct blacklight may explode fantastically into warped, incoherent mounds of flesh with extra limbs, internal rearrangement, or much worse. Any creature afflicted by Brome is certain to become a monster,
