Grain Trawling
As Regenne turns northward on its yearly migration path, it prepares to pass through its most important territory for the season. As the city lumbers away from its coastal pastures, the people of Regenne prepare to pass through their ancestral farmlands. It is too dangerous for the people to return to the ground for traditional methods of grain harvest, but it is their most important source of food in the migration path. And so the people prepare in order to get the most out of this opportunity. Great scythes are attached to the ankles of the enormous statues carrying the city. Nets are draped down the back end, stretching hundreds of feet down to the ground. Teams of mounted knights in ceremonial armor accompany the king to the ground below. A polished brass brazier is set between the four altars in the central cathedral, and the aperture in the domed ceiling is opened wide. When the first moon rises over Regenne and the ancient farmland, the grain trawling begins.
The weights on the nets drop to the dirt, trapping heaps of cut grain stalks as well as animals fleeing the chaos of the moving city. As Regenne passes through the region, people work night and day to collect as much of the harvest as they can before reaching reaching the marshes to the north. During this period, the clergy performs sacrifices to give thanks and ward off evil spirits.
Participants
Teams of people move up and down the net, binding the stalks and netted animals to pass them up the rigging to the city top. They frequently rotate positions, to minimize their individual pull on arcane accumulation. As long as the workers do not stay at plant height for too long, they are able to harvest the grains with little risk of tainting the food with corruption.
In the cathedral, the priests quickly sift through the goods from below. They select portions of grain and beasts to sacrifice. Based on which moons are active that night, the offering are divvied up to the respective gods' altar and burned, with the smoke rising out the aperture above. These small sacrifices are used to appease the Orodromic gods, minor prayers for blessings of a good and safe harvest.
Down below, the king of Regenne and his escort of knights begin a hunt. Their task is possibly the most dangerous of the roles while grain trawling, for they must hunt for a beast suitable to be served as a sacrifice to all four of their gods. It is believed that the quarry must be sacrificed between the statues of the four gods to keep the dreaded moon Brome at bay.
