South Region: Jaraia
The mountain forest Kingdom of Jaraia sits high in the eastern end of the Southern Crescent mountain range. Although the Spider Jungle is easily accessible from Jaraia, sharp, nigh-impassible cliffs mark its borders with Ajaria to the north and the Empire of Cattle to the south. Another sharp drop-off before the Great Southern Sea and jagged peaks poking out of the waters make any kind of naval trade impossible. The only way that Jaraians are able to move goods into and out of the Kingdom, other than through the Spider Jungle, is via a system of ramps and elevators set up at the cataracts spilling northward and southward from their Crescent sources. These mechanisms are some of the world’s most impressive surviving feats of engineering, and Jaraia attracts a lot of Mechanist students hoping to learn its secrets.

Structure
Jaraia has a hereditary king who leaves almost all decisions in the hands of his administrators. Each aspect of Jaraian life--trade, sanitation, education, diplomacy, etc.--is managed by the bureaucracy, and although a reigning monarch can technically overrule any decision made at any level, it has been generations since one attempted to do so.
