Northeast Region: The Venial Straits and The Refuge of Valsaline
One reason traders risk the Golden Desert is that the sea route to the east is even more dangerous. Between the landmasses of Shoulun and Baghadeesh is a comb-shaped series of archipelagos, each surrounded by rough, rocky waters. Those who manage to navigate the rocks face monstrous terrors and any stretch of sea that is safe enough for sailors will be full of Wokou and Pirates. On the north shore at the western entrance of the Venial Straits, as they are known, is the Refuge of Valsaline. This theocratic city-state surrounded by mountains on three sides is where a tribe of Jessians from Tricorn island established their own kingdom several generations ago. The Refuge sends supplies and fighters to Tricorn Island to aid the Jessians there, and sponsors missions to spread their word in other lands. The cult is slowly gaining traction among the pre-literate islanders of the Hubbish Sea and Venial Straits.
