North Region: Plutonite Underground
Beneath the Martian Empire, the Plutonites have carved a large anarchic realm for themselves among the other denizens of the Underearth. Plutonite slaves from the surface that are afforded the independence to wander regularly visit the underground to trade or unwind, often taking out repressed rage on one another in fighting matches. Competitive martial arts and the gambling that goes with it are huge in the Plutonite Underground and draw many non-Plutonite visitors from the surface. Martians aren’t supposed to know about the existence of the underground and will be killed if discovered, but other races are generally trusted to keep quiet (a side-effect of the Martians’ racist policies is that no non-Martian feels any loyalty to the Empire).

Structure
The Underground is accessible from most urban location via their drainage systems and utility tunnels, both active and ancient. Since all sewer servicing is performed by slaves, the Martians themselves never explore the networks under their cities. From open cracks and secret doors in the sewers and utility tunnels, stairs or winding slopes descend to a network of caverns, some of which are wide enough to contain the equivalent of a small town. Most of the caverns beneath the Empire are populated, but there is no system or order outside of a few areas under control of gangs and some small cooperative communities that have managed to maintain both independence and stability.
Slaves who escape through the tunnels to the Underground will either stay and join the population, or descend further into the realms of Dwarves and Gnomes underneath the Underground, depending on their alignment.
