Martial Arts Styles: MA001a-k Monkfist

Monks learn two styles before any other. The first of these styles is the version of Monkfist used by their order. There are 11 surviving monastic Elemental Families, each with its own version of Monkfist. The Special Maneuvers are the same for each version of Monkfist and learned automatically based on level. The other features of the art also depend on the level of the Monk, as shown in PHB(1st). Each Elemental form of Monkfist provides a different elemental power upon mastery. Each monastery teaches its own set of 18 weapons from a larger set that is compatible with its Elemental form of Monkfist. The second art learned by a Monk depends on their order, temple, or school. When using this secondary art, the martial artist gains the bonuses described in OA(1st).   The different schools of Monkfist are said to all have a common origin in the prehistoric 13 Elements Hand. This original art has been lost, along with two of its offshoots (Mist and Smoke). The splintering of schools is supposed to have occurred in the wake of the Bicaboom and consequent "metaphysical differentiation," as the sages describe the crystallization of distinctions between elements and between such other contrasts as night/day, waking/sleeping caused by the "Boomwave" (see Sagus Consensus entries: "Spokeless Aeon," "Bicaboom," "Boomwave," "metaphysical differentiation," "Lost Martial Arts").   Unlike other martial arts, Monkfist's Armor Class modifier, damage, and number of attacks advance with each class level.
