Career Progression

All Scholar Specialists choose a Major upon entering Level 1. This determines the kind of spells they can major in as well as which Sage Proficiencies they will be required to learn.

Other Benefits

Upon achieving the required Expert Topic proficiency for one's Major, a Scholar Specialist is deemed a Magister in the field and gain an additional round of ability bonus points equivalent to an apprenticeship (bonus stats only), based on Major. 
Magister bonus:
Divinity or Mysticism = Purist (+1 Wis, +1 Con, +1 Cha)
Mysticism = Stealth (+1 Wis, +1 Dex, +1 Cha)

Naturalism = Naturalist (+1 Int, +1 Wis, +1 Con)
Humanities = Scholar (+2 Int, +1 Wis)
Other Perks:
Level 1: All Scholar Specialists may use the scrolls of any magic type they can cast. Scholastic Sages may use scrolls of schools other than their specialty.
Level 3: Clerks may use magic items designated for Clerics. Sage-Magicians may use magic items designated for Magic-Users and Illusionists. Scholastics may use magic items designated for Magic-Users. Additionally: Scholastics majoring in Divinity may use magic items designated for Clerics and Shukenja, Scholastics majoring in Naturalism may use magic items designated for Druids and Fighters, Scholastics majoring in Humanities may use magic items designated for Bards and Thieves, and Scholastics majoring in Mysticism may use magic items designated for Wu Jen and Illusionists.
Level 6: A sage may take on an apprentice at level 6 like other classes but may also take on an additional apprentice at level 7 and again at level 8.
Level 9: Attract 1d6 pupils as Kensai, with the option of establishing a school. A Sage with a school will attract a further 1d6 pupils per level.
