Spell Types Sage-Artificers do not have Majors and Minors in their magic use and may draw from any of the three types allowed to their class, assuming they know the appropriate magical language. Their only restriction is that they must learn certain languages to advance in class. The Alchemist must begin with Wushen, learn Arkan by level 6, and Druidic by level 12. The Mechanist must begin with Arkan, learn Wushen by level 6, and Luciferian by level 12.

Scholarly Proficiencies
Alchemists are required to prioritise the Alchemy Expert Topic, Brewing and Distillation, as well as learn two of the following Civil proficiencies: Smelter, Potter, Advanced Cooking, Miner, Paper-maker, Limner/Painter. They must also learn at least two of the following Wilderness proficiencies: Fungus Identification, Herbalist, Foraging, Plant Lore. Alchemists must become proficient in Cryptography as soon as possible in order to read alchemical recipes.
Mechanists are required to prioritise the Mechanics Advanced Topic as well as learn two of the following Civil Proficiencies: Blacksmith, Bowyer/Fletcher, Weaponsmith, Armorer, Gunsmith, Carpenter, Civil Engineer. Mechanists must also learn Cryptography in order to be able to read schematics for magical items.

Other Benefits

Anyone with Alchemy expertise may concoct level 1 potions but only members of the Alchemist class progress further. Various spell-caster types may construct magical items, but only Mechanists or NPC engineers may construct siege machinery, and only Mechanists may construct Automatons, Stone Guardians, or Iron Golems, only Alchemists may construct Flesh Golems, and only Artificers may construct several specific magical items. Alchemists and Mechanists must seek out recipes and schematics for the items they create. In addition to standard recipe-based potions, Alchemists may also create potion version of any spell they have access to, provided that spell has a material component. This includes spells they could not memorize due to their level.
