Career Progression

Scops use the XP, HP, and Spell progression table for Bards show in Player's Handbook. 1st-level Scops gain 0 hit dice, as shown on the chart, relying on the hit points they have accumulated as a non-specialist and apprentice. Bards use Druid spells, learned directly from Druids, from other Bards, or from texts. Griots use Magic-User spells learned from scrolls. Sha'ir use Shukenja spells granted by spirits. Skalds use Cleric spells granted by the gods and their servants. Skalds gain their first spell at level two and use the Bard's spell progression table as though one level lower.   Maximum Level

Other Benefits

The Bard's abilities remain as described in PHB. All Scops share the Bard's legend lore skills and the poetic ability to raise morale.   Starting at level 3, Griots may negotiate equivalent to the haggle ability of a Merchant two levels lower. This skill may be used for trade or diplomacy. They can use any magic items permitted to Magic-Users. Griots share the Bard's singing abilities in regard to harpies, shriekers, etc. They charm at half the % chance of a Bard.   Sha'ir do not play an instrument or have a charm ability. Instead, they have a genie summoning ability starting at 4th level (cumulative):
4th: summon a Jann 1/month: serves 7 days
8th: summon a Djinn 1/month: 3 days
12th: summon a Dao 1/month: 2 days
16th: summon an Efreeti 1/month: 1 day
20th: summon a Marid 1/month: 12 hours
The summoned genie serves for the stated period or until its form is destroyed. Sha'ir can use any magic items permitted to Clerics.   Skalds do not play an instrument or have a charm ability. Instead, they have a taunt ability in addition to their morale-boosting poetics. When a Skald performs battlefied poetry, not only do they boost team morale, but they also reduce morale of any enemies who can hear and understand by the same amount. Skalds can use any magic items permitted to Clerics, Fighters, or Thieves.
