Gleemen use the XP progression table until level 22. Unlike Scops, Gleemen gain hit dice starting at level 1 and continue to gain hit dice as a Bard of one level higher. Shamanic Bards can rise as high as level 27. Shamanic Bards and Minstrels use the spell progression table of Bards, but Shamanic Bards use Wu Jen magic and Minstrels use Illusionist magic. In order to become a Carnivalist, a Minstrel must start training at level 5 and will enter the new class at level 6. Carnivalists only gain new spells every other level and stop gaining spells after level 18.

Shamanic Bards and The Devil's Dues
Shamanic Bards receive their powers by accepting an offer from an extraplanar entity. They are approached by a representative of the entity and seldom know who their benefactor actually is. Normally, it will be of the same alignment as the Bard, however, 50% of beings sponsoring Chaotic Good Shamanic Bards will in fact be Lawful Evil.
Upon reaching level 18, Shamanic Bards will have to face an extraplanar being who has arrived to claim their soul or servitude in return for the powers they have been providing. If the Bard loses, they are taken away, usually for eternity, though some Chaotic Good deities may ask only for a period of servitude or even one quest. If they win, they may carry on progressing, as by this point they have formed a personal connection to the plane of their former sponsor deity and can draw power without assistance. They also gain a familiar who stays with them until its demise. However, they will now be an enemy of an extraplanar god or demigod and will face further abduction attempts until they reach level 27 at which time they may summon their own outer planes denizen (1/month for a service period of 24 hours). If the Bard goes willingly with their visitor, there is a chance may be offered better position under their new master than if they resist. However, since most Shamanic Bards lean Chaotic, few serve willingly.
