Cosmocetus
The Cosmocetus also known as Ghar'Ilid or Astrocete is a large space whale that can typically be found in deep space and is believed to be sentient. They are a subgroup of a larger sentient and fantastical group known as cosmo-aequoreus or space marine.
They are a shy species that typically stay away from busy space. It is not wholly uncommon for them to be found on the edge of civilized space but even then, that is mainly due to migratory routes. They are insanely rare to come across and those that have met them speak of the stories they were told from the whales. One such scientist, Doctor Caelan Pearce, is known to be one of the only ones to be invited in to the whale's rituals and gatherings. But even he has stated that they followed far, far behind the whales due to the cacophony of their spaceships. And during observations, would shut down the ships entirely besides the basics to not bother the whales.
To be in the presence of one is an honor, to be able to initiate and enter into conversation is an entirely different thing entirely. These whales are thought to be nearly immortal, watching as civilizations rise and fall, being present for the birth of stars and saying farewell to those on the verge of going supernova.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Despite very little being known about the space whales, one scientist has had the honor of being able to watch and document a mating ritual. The female whales will begin to sing and the males will dance and rearrange the cosmos, space becoming a canvas for an alien-like painting. The females will then choose the partner and piece that they believe best fit their song. This process takes months and happens across a great deal of space, the males spreading out to not bother another's piece.
The scientist took note of the lack of violence. If it seemed like more than one male was going after the same female, they bowed out gracefully when the female chose. Sometimes the female chose no one and that female would not mate that season. That was all he was allowed to see. Once the ritual was concluded, the whales made it clear that the next parts were far more private and communicated that they wished for the observers to leave.
Common Myths and Legends
There is more legend than actual truth about these majestic beings. Some say that they live off of dead planets, being pulled to dead stars and planets alike to eat what remains so that new ones may one day take their place. Others say that the whales are beacons that will always lead the way to a new galaxy. And even some say that the wondrous cosmos that the whales so easily blend up against, is just the whale's excrement. Many scientists have tried to follow the whales but none have truly found a possible way as spaceships, no matter how stealthy, spook the species and will typically cause them to wander from their true path.

Space whales! ❤️ And huh, logical that ships make too much noise for them. Makes me wonder how much normal whales hate nuclear submarines...
