Cerashard

Cerashard (Ceramics and Shard composite) is a very useful material for any blade that needs to retain it's sharpness, but current manufacturing techniques prevent large blades to be made of this. It's a desirable material for daggers, bayonets, arrowheads, or occasionally for armor plates. However, it is quite a process to excavate and refine, so this material does not come cheap.   95% of Cerashard is made in Ranoi'Qua , and is considered their specialty. The Empire has had some success making their own items out of this material, and some of the more advanced Flatland Tribes produce some for themselves as well. Ranoi'Qua extracts the glittering clay that they use for cerashard out of their northern mines, and combines it with leftover Shard scraps. Unfortunately, every item larger than a medium-sized dagger blade proves to be too brittle under duress and prone to quickly breaking. This hasn't stopped some specialized Shardsmiths from creating fine artworks out of this material, since these pieces do not need to stand up to the rigors of the road like a blade or armor would.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Thick cerashard looks white, and catches the light in a way that can be described as sparkling. Thinner works, such as decorative vases or dining ware is almost translucent, and is pure white, unless specifically colored. Dark blue and emerald green lacquers, with pigments harvested from small cultivated insects, are commonly baked into cerashard when used in purely decorative works.
