TOL S9 E1: "The Siege of Jeharoa"
General Summary
The party discussed their next move after escaped the Bronze Barracks with evidence of Sir Gundaric of Angessier's involvement in a fiendish plot to uncover the Tahmuras and unleash something called the Triptych Flame.
They then left word with innkeep Reverence Damron that they were seeking Jubilee Ardakadze, and that they had at their hideout her fellow Tahmuras monk Reyhan. Reyhan was stable but had been gravely injured by the Brotherhood and it was unlikely that they could move him covertly without drawing attention.
After setting up a signal with Reverence, they continued their discussion at the hideout and decided that their priority was figuring out the link between Lucius Pellinore and Obadiah the Wise, as they did not know if they could trust Lucius but were intrigued by his claims about Obadiah and the Time Tablets. In order to continue pulling this investigative thread, the party decided they should wait out the coming battle between the defenders of Jeharoa and the Qartagonian Grand Army of the Dragon.
This upset their new squire, Avery Farynwel, whom had suggested the party bring this information to Nizar the Turnclaw, Captain of the Ashkelonian Guard and named adversary of Sir Gundaric. This, he hoped, would allow them to bring justice to a corrupt leader while still serving the honorable ideals of the Brotherhood. It would also allow them to participate in the city and his home's defense, which was quite concerning to the young squire. The party remained resolute and released Avery of his duties, prompting the boy to leave the hideout.
After a long rest, the party went to check the signal established to contact Jubilee. Along the way, they became caught up in the early morning preparations for the siege and wound up running into Captain Nizar as he gave his speech to the defenders gathered. They were inspired, and Nizar even intoned that Avery had gone ahead and relayed to him the information of Sir Gundaric's treachery. Moments later, the first wave of attacks began and our heroes decided to assist those around them, evacuating wounded and shoring up the city's defenses.
Over the next hour, the Silver Sisters continued their efforts, fighting on the south wall between the Elephant Gate and the Tower of the Dog. They eventually made their way to the Tower of the Dog, where they met Marshal Rostrum Thynemenos. Thynemenos ordered them assist in repelling a siege tower that had engaged the defenders. Lyle summoned an army of baboons to harry the Qartagonians and in a moment of heroism and Fenrir managed to pull down the siege tower with only a metal chain. Their actions led to chants and a surge of inspiration amongst the troops in their vicinity.
Shortly after this feat, the Marshal received word that Sir Gundaric and a number of Bronze Brothers had abandoned their position at the rapidly overwhelmed East Gate. The Marshal, privy to Avery's intelligence, charged the Silver Sisters with arresting Sir Gundaric for this treachery and reinforcing the East Gate. He relayed that he was sending them to Nizar over his magical laurel crown, but moments after our heroes left the tower, the command center was struck by trebuchet fire, killing the Marshal. Fenrir dutifully collected the Marshal's Animated Spear and the party turned to race towards the Queen's Garden, where it was believed Sir Gundaric and the traitorous Bronze Brothers were attempting to escape to.
Things to keep in mind:
- Party is concerned about Obadiah the Wise looking for them.
- Party was told to meet Jubilee in the Queen's Garden.
- Party does not know what the Triptych Flame is or how exactly it is connected to the Heart Hearth.
- According to Lucius, the Heart Hearth contains a Time Tablet and that is what the Frosted Gold Company was looking for.
- Lucius is working with Jubilee—Jubilee agreed to show Lucius the Heart Hearth in exchange for Lucius helping rescue Reyhan.
