Holy Books & Codes
The primary religious text for the gods of the Ordning is the Tale of Twilight, which is said to recount that which will come to pass in the days of the Twilight Era, the Final Doomed moments of the Material Plane. Ordered claim that it was Jötu, himself a powerful seer, that gleaned the Tale of Twilight through the runecasting. Jötu then had his child Duris record the Tale and give it to all the giants that they might prepare the smaller races for the coming apocalypse.
Styr in particular is known from a number of sagas and songs recorded and sung among the skalds of the stone giants and cultures influenced by the mythologies and religion of the Ordning. One such tale, the Mirkul Edda, tells the story of Styr and his brother Gronnar traveling across Varangia to visit the realm of the Feywild and the Fomorian giants that live there.
Other stories told by giants include the exploits and histories of the gods of the Ordning, including Styr. Cultures influenced by giant religion, such as the Varskogans of Varangia, often have echoes of these tales stitched into the fabric their oral histories.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Styr's divine symbol is the giant rune, algiz, the Old Varangian sign for "divine protection."
Holidays
In giant culture, the five days of the week are divided among the giant gods, save Thenn. The fourth day of the week is called Styrday, and worship of the Carven Protector is held on this day.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
Styr has been given the task of fortifying the divine realms of Ysgaard and Helgaard and the rainbow bridge, Bygaard that connects the Three Realms for the Twilight War. All craftsmen, artisans, and stonecutters are brought to him in death where they are put to work building the great stone walls and decorating the halls and towers of Ysgaard with their beautiful art.
Personality Characteristics
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Styr is often ridiculed by his siblings Duris and Frothga because of his slow contemplation and outward caution. However, in myths of Styr, he is shown to be more than a simple brute like his young brother Gronnar and even displays a great deal of cunning. However, he does have a disdain for book-learning, preferring the Old Magic and its customs of runecasting and meditation.
Social
Family Ties
Styr has one parent, the Storm Father Jötu. Styr's mother, Vaynera, was killed during the birth of his brother Gronnar. He is the younger brother of three divine siblings Duris, Frothga, and Thenn; and the older brother of Gronnar. In many stories, he and his brother Gronnar are considered close, with Styr looking after his foolish brother as they adventure across Ysgaard, Helgaard, and Thenngaard.
