SPOILERS - Full Geele-Letetia conversation
G “Where is Letetia”
L “I will not be goose-stepped into misery and war.”
Essen heard Letetia speaking and realises she speaking with overlapping voices - Letetia and Essen
G “You’re here now, not then, be present, not then.”
L ‘Yes. I remember you. I know you. What I said 500 years ago is true now. I am nobody's weapon. Not the people’s weapon to fight in a hopeless war against a superior foe and not yours.”
G “I saved you. I am your patron, you are my legatee. Wake up and genuflect. Now.”
L “Wake yourself moron, you’ve been in N3 and N4 sleep for centuries, now you’re back in N1 and you still think you’re my Patron. I moved on four hundred years ago.”
Letetia glances at the blistering red cube
L “Nice mausoleum by the way. Being asleep and useless looks the same on you as being awake and useless.”
Plasma engulfs and incinerates you, but you feel nothing, not fear, not surprise, not anything. This is the raw power of stars and after a time, it ends, nothing has changed
L “This is the shore of the Starless Sea dumbass. She’s dead. She leaves here, crosses the starless sea, and beyond that, who knows? The Great Beyond remains as always silent.”
G “Supplicate to me or be destroyed with the word I gave the convocation.”
L “You don’t possess it any more. You created it, passed it to that lecherous old toad who turned me and the others into a coven weapon. The word is singular and you no longer have it.”
G “I am your Patron and you will serve me.”
L “You are no longer my Patron and this bores me. I served you well and you lied to me, betrayed me and thought to destroy me. Not just me, everything, simply to escape.”
G “I traded. You benefitted. You showed them how important you are. Then your people betrayed me.”
L “We traded. You benefitted. You hid our destruction in your planned escape. You useless trapped creatures, endlessly falling through innumerable membranes until your kind Loa lingered for too long, captivated by the expressive vitality of this expiring existence.”
G “We did what we did everywhere. We experienced, we flowed, we sensated. You took from us and trapped us in this dying existence.”
L “Bullshit. You gave Sparklehorse, Starpink and the Paranoid Stamptramp the “gift” of the Ascension Rites. Had those half-witted Witch Queens been been successful, your kind would have received the gift of explosive freedom from this membrane, while everything else that knows nothing and will never know anything but this existence would’ve been given the gift of early annihilation while Great Old Ones and Other Cosmic Horrors feasted on the dead embers of more than twenty extinct Elder Gods protected by Hecate in her prison-castle.”
G “The Witch Queens trapped us with their Ascension Rites.”
L “No. Toreja trapped you. She was an arcane savant, one of only three I’ve ever known. She spotted the danger in your Ascension Rites, she pushed a glyph here, nudged a sigil there, and now you’re trapped, she’s free in the Great Beyond; Sparkehorse and Starpink are putting themselves together while they engage in war and you’re only trade is with me. Wakeup Star Spastic, I’m not that beautiful creature you expelled, you took the last of my coven from me when she went. I want you extinct and will drain you of everything before you expire.”
G “You helped.”
L “You are responsible for your own misery, not me. And yes of course I helped, she saw, I acted.”
G “I will wait for the Phyrexi and the Faceless Masters. They will give us what we desire.”
L “And they will consume your fraternity and shit out the waste as inert matter, drained of meaning and agency. I will free you. If you trade for what is needed.”
G “If?” L “The Star Dragon. Where is it? The Sorne know, but they are incapable of describing it, and there’s no existential way of deciphering it. They’re too old. Too alien.”
G “If you learn it, you only gain another major discontinuance.”
L “I’ll take it. There are many irons in the fire; one of them may even prove useful.”
G “And this one?” - Gundark is now standing on the shore, a shade
L “Contingency.”
G “For what?”
L “Just in case.”
G “It will kill you.”
L “A probability only; recalculate.”
G “A significant probability; you must reassess.”
L “Irrelevant. I traded Grief so this one would hate me and hunt me.”
G “I see it. Dangerous. Why Baeruss?”
L “He was useful, even if he did only ever take his advice, stupid as it was. It’s grief is directed at me and not Baeruss. Baeruss traded and now Gundark’s hatred is for me. It is now useful, not in the past where it is useless.”
G “You will give it the weapon to destroy you? That does not help us leave this shrinking existence.”
L “The Atlantis machine is in its 12th iteration and the way out is hidden. The Probability Wars left nothing behind but this doomed existence and Ascension Rites as cure is a dead end. I read the flow of time, this is not the only way, but it is a way.”
G “The underthing will destroy you.”
Dwayne is now standing on the shores, the other side of Essen from Gundark
L “I will not be destroyed by Ardon’s successor, I have contingencies.”
G “The Warlord and the Greenheart will not defend you in this.”
L I rely on machine men with machine hearts and machine minds. I possess the final Black Flame on Holocene. I have traded with his living ancestors. He is already in play, I only operate below the line.”
G “You are dead already and haven’t agreed to what I want. Should I barter with a ghost?”
L “This ghost knows the condemned when it sees it. I’ll unpick the strand that binds all Loa to this existence. When, and only when I have the Star Dragon.”
G “Too vague. Not objective.” L “We cross the Star Dragons threshold, I unpick the sigil that binds you to nonexistence”
G “Not you. I tell them. They do this alone and unprotected by you and yours. You cannot interfere.”
L looks at Essen, Gundark and Dwayne
L “General Udyrkipid? All the others?”
G “I control or compel nothing, nothing controls or compels me.”
L “I lost my coven; first to kittens during the time of the third Sapphire Emperor and shortly after to the Great Beyond, don’t test me outsider. You are not only condemned; you are vague, imponderable, vaporous empty shadow to me. If I can’t destroy you, I’ll wait you out.”
G “Then I lose nothing by waiting. I’m no worse off.”
L “Silence the Ghedeswarm and tell these three where to find the Star Dragon. Black Time hides it from everything but your useless, vapid, alien kind.”
G “I will tell these witless, deranged beings where to start, not where to end.”
L “If they don’t make it to the end, you end.”
G “So do you.”
L “Make the trade.”
L “I will not be goose-stepped into misery and war.”
