Jinkol's Ticking Gnomes
A tiny magical item from the Elderdays, Jinkol's Ticking Gnomes can align with a creature of sufficient intellect to aid in overcoming enemies and bringing foes low.
A creature may seek to align to an individual Ticking Gnome by spending 10 minutes holding the Ticking Gnome in quiet contemplation (i.e. no movement, no actions, no bonus actions, no reactions, no interaction with the world around them) and making a DC 15 intelligence save at the end of the contemplation.
On a failure, the creature takes 2d8 magical slashing damage that my not be prevented or redirected, ignores temporary hit pounts, and temporarily reduces the creatures maximum hit points until a long rest. No other creature may attempt to align with the Ticking Gnome for 24 hours (the attempted aligner for one year).
On a success, the Ticking Gnome aligns to the creature. It does not take up a regular attunement slot, and a creature may have a maximum number of Elderday Gnomes (e.g. Copper Gnomes, Festoon Gnomes, Jar Gnomes, Metrognomes, Tartan Gnomes, Ticking Gnomes) aligned to them equal to half zis proficiency (rounded down).
The Ticking Gnome must be within 15" of the creature to be activated.
The creature aligned with the Ticking Gnome may use a bonus action to activate one Ticking Gnome to a maximum number of once per long rest and no more than a number times 12 months from the alignment of the Ticking Gnome to its aligner over one year:
- The Ticking Gnome transforms into a small brassy clockwork construct of snarling, raging, ticktocking death
- The Ticking Gnome has AC = 12 + 2x creature's proficiency, HP = 4d8 + 3x creature's proficiency, resistance to all non-force/phantom energy damage and non-magical bludgeoning slashing & piercing damage, 2x attacks = creatures proficiency x 3, range attack 10", magical slashing damage = creatures proficiency x d4, speed = 40", saving throws = creature's saving throws (without proficiency bonus)
- At the end of each round that Ticking Gnome active it deals damage equal to the aligner's proficiency bonus in magical slashing damage to the aligner
- The aligner may use a bonus action to redirect the Ticking Gnome to attack another target, if a creature the Ticking Gnome attack is destroyed/dies it must be redirected by the Aligner using a bonus action otherwise go to step 5
- If there is no target the Ticking Gnome to attack within 40" that it can reach, Ticking Gnome attacks the aligner, in this case the Ticking Gnome does not deal damage per step three
- The aligner must use a bonus action and succeed on a DC 15 intelligence savings throw to deactivate the Ticking Gnome
- If Ticking Gnome kills its aligner, it vanishes and reforms within one year in a random location within aligners proficiency x d6 miles
- If Ticking Gnome is reduced to zero hit points during combat (and it wasn't attacking it's aligner), it deactivates for a period of one week, before it can be reactivated
