Jinkol's Metrognome

A tiny magical item from the Elderdays, Jinkol's Metrognome revels in creativty and can align with a creature of sufficient intellect to excite its imagination.   A creature may seek to align to an individual Metrognome by spending 10 minutes holding the Metrognome in quiet contemplation (i.e. no movement, no actions, no bonus actions, no reactions, no interaction with the world around them) and making a DC 15 intelligence save at the end of the contemplation.   On a failure, the creature takes 2d6 psychic that my not be prevented or redirected, and temporarily reduces the creatures maximum hit points until a long rest. No-one may attempt to attune with the Metrognome for 24 hours (the attempted alinger for one year).   On a success, the Metrognome becomes aligned to the creature. It does not take up a regular attunement slot, and a creature may have a maximum number of Elderday Gnomes (e.g. Copper Gnomes, Festoon Gnomes, Jar Gnomes, Metrognome, Tartan Gnomes, Ticking Gnomes) attuned to them equal to half zis proficiency (rounded down).   The Metrognome stays with the aligned creature for up to one year after which if the time expires, it is destroyed or it has used its maximum number of actions allowed (see descriptions below) the Metrognome vanishes and reforms within one year in a random location within a distance equal to the aligners proficiency x d6 miles   The Metrognome must be within 15" of the creature to be activated.   The creature aligned with the Metrognome may use an action to activate one Metrognome in either its Sublime Aura or Harmony form. Once a form is chosen, this is the only form the Metrognome can take while aligned to a creature::   Sublime Aria
  • Use a bonus action to activate the Metrognome and add 2x proficiency bonus to any performance check for a number of hours equal to half the aligner's proficiency bonus OR
  • Use a bonus action to activate the Metrognome and add 1x proficiency bonus to any other performance check for a number of hours equal to half the aligner's proficiency bonus, provided the target is within 60" of the aligned creature
  • Sublime Aura may be activated a maximum number of times equal to 2x the aligner's proficiency bonus over the one year and may be activated a maximum of once per long rest
  • If a gnome aligns with a Metrognome, it can add an additional proficiency bonus when Sublime Aria is activated
  Harmony
  • Use an action to activate and the Metrognome grants the aligned creature +1 proficiency bonus to any performance check for a number of hours equal to half the aligner's proficiency bonus
  • Harmony may only be activated once per long rest
  • Harmony may be used between every long rest
  • If a gnome aligns with a Metrognome, it can add +2 (rather than +1) on a number of occasions equal to 2x its proficiency bonus when using harmony
