Shade
Growing up knowing no name, but only hunger and anger, Shade is a freak mutation of a human. Her insatiable hunger and razor sharp teeth, combined with a complete and total lack of sanity, have led her to resort to cannibalism on more than one occasion, even preferring it if she feels like she can get away with it.
Despite her much more pale face, fangs and green eyes as opposed to April’s blue, authorities have apprehended April because the two share a fairly similar facial structure. April’s case was very much not helped when her bloodwork showed a partial match with blood recovered from a crime scene where Shade cut herself on a broken window, though the fact that it wasn’t a complete match helped prove April’s innocence.
When Shade was apprehended, she became erratic upon seeing April, calling her “The abandoner” before claiming that April is Shade’s mother, despite the fact that Shade appears to be a year or two older than April. Though she believed this could be because there were already time travel shenanigans afoot. However, a casual remark would lead April to a very different conclusion.
When April said that she constantly hears about how she looks startlingly like her own mother, she suddenly remembered how Raven had died, been revived by Obitus, and then was forced through a continuous cycle of dying and being resurrected over and over again. April remembered that Tyler proposed to Raven one month before she died the first time, meaning if they took each other to bed that very night, it would be far too early for Raven to even have reason to suspect she was pregnant before she died. Raven would never abandon her own child, but Annihilator couldn’t care less.
Upon this revelation, and needing a bit of backup to take the fight to the Hydro Hydra, April explains her hypothesis to Shade and helps break her older sister out of prison. Shade, ecstatic about the idea of having a sister, promptly gives herself the name May, despite the fact that May follows April, rather than preceding it. Ultimately, May winds up giving her life to save April, stating that she deserves it after all that she has done. April tries to counter that she knows firsthand that nobody, no matter how awful, deserves to die, but May refuses to listen with her dying breath.
