Mukaga's Tax Policy

By order of Mukaga, Steward of Old Ashton, and Protector of Vircook Isle   Subject: Tax Policy for the Residents of Old Ashton and Environs   Welcome to Old Ashton, a vibrant community nestled within the Vircook Isles. As a potential resident, you are required to acknowledge and agree to the following tax policy that serves to sustain our island’s upkeep and enhance the quality of life for all who call it home.  

1. Taxation Rate

 

• All residents are obligated to contribute 20% of their monthly earnings in gold to the community treasury. This tax is critical for the maintenance and enhancement of communal amenities and infrastructure on Old Ashton.

 

2. Purpose and Allocation

 

• The collected taxes are used to support the essential services of Old Ashton, including infrastructure maintenance, public safety, and communal resources. Given our separation from Ariados and Ravagor, these funds ensure our communities remain vibrant and secure.

 

3. Clauses and Considerations

 

• Income-Based Payment: Should you lack gold earnings, you are required to contribute 20% of your gold reserves, keeping equity in mind as many residents have incomes in silver or copper.
• Bridge District Exemption: Tax policy does not apply to residents of the Bridge District. By opting out, residents forsake the protections and amenities provided by this tax but must independently seek defense against external threats, often requiring equivalent or greater expenditure for private protection.
• Fund Usage Limitation: To maintain ethical governance, it is stipulated that Mukaga may claim only 15% of all collected taxes for personal use. The remaining funds must be allocated towards the betterment of the community and the island’s infrastructure.

 

4. Community Enrichment Events

 

1. In times of treasury surplus, Mukaga commits to organizing cultural and social events like musical performances, grand feasts, or carnivals, using his extensive connections. These events aim to foster community spirit and celebrate our shared livelihood.
