Elvismancy
Elvismancy is a magical and spiritual tradition through which adherants attempt to find true peace and harmony through Elvisness. Generally considered an early form of chaos magic, Elvismancy had been practiced in the fairy realm sine the 16th Century, but only became prominent in our world in the 1950s. Elvismancers use the art of Elvis Impersonation to power their rituals, substituting rhinestone jumpsuits, pelvic thrusts, and music by the King for the usual ritual trappings and materials.
History
Elvismancy's early growth was largely a result by a scheme by Colonel Parker to make sure his client wasn't forgotten while he completed his army service. To keep Elvis in the forefront of the public's mind, Parker groomed a rather large stable of impersonators (including novelty impersonators, like Chinese Elvis and Little Person Elvis) to perform at various events to keep The King's memory alive until he returned from Germany.
Around the same time, Mary Brannigan, the First Elvismancer, was learning the secrets of the Elfves (the fairy clan who have practiced Elvismancy since Shakespeare's time). Eventually, Mary met up with Parker, who, having spent years as a carnie, was completely willing to use magic to turn a buck. With Mary's assistance, many of the Colonel's impersonators were taught to harness the magical power of Elvis.
Execution
While there are a few Elvismancer rituals that do not include a musical component, the vast majority of Elvismancer rituals involve performing one of Elvis's songs. Additional ritual elements vary from one spell to the next. Some can be completely and convincingly disguised as actions that an Elvis impersonator would perform in a typical night's work. Others are highly ritualized and leave no question that a magic spell is being cast.
Components and tools
While there's some debate as to whether dressing like Elvis is required for casting Elvismancer spells, most Elvismancers agree that the more you embody The King, the easier the magic flows. Some Elvismancers stick with a particular Elvis era or costume (Gold Lamé, Rhinestone Jumpsuit, Jailhouse Rock, and '68 Special Black Leather are among the most popular). Others choose their attire based on the kind of spell they're trying to cast. For example, an Elvismancer might dress as Viva Las Vegas Elvis when they know they're going to be casing a lot of car-related spells during a big getaway, then switch to a Hawaiian costume to petition the Volcano Goddess.
Items, places, and ideas closely associated with Elvis ar often used in place of the swords, cups, bells, candles, and other knick-knacks used by traditional occultists. Common examples include the TCB sigil, scarves (preferably flung into a crowd), photos or statuettes of The King, Cadillac cars, police badges, guns, pills, deep-fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and Coca-Cola. Elvismancers also make use of more routine magical accouterments when necessary, but consider it a particularly un-stylish way to practice the art of magic.
