Session II - Into the Storm. Report
General Summary
all start back at the boat, so finishing the story in town and bringing it back to the point of origin makes it easy to switch characters in and out.
We started with a good old fashioned chase sequence as the ship was pursued by two bounty hunting brigs
This ended when their Captain drove their ship into a storm as the other ships could travel at the same speed, so decided to take the risk. One of the BH vessels followed and got destroyed, the other turned away from the storm.
The storm came with its own issues, characters were tossed around, thrown overboard by giant waves, a mix of athletics saves, con saves and dex saves were used to determine who stayed on board or who got thrown about.
Drama of the storm over, they finally made it onto the Hexmap I'd created for the campaign. The players do not have a 1 to 1 map, instead they have a mysterious Star map, and with the storm navigated, they now have very little idea where they are.
They sailed over 1 hex and I used the random encounter table from GoS for the open seas and the players were faced with two hunting Merrow who were looking to drag them down into the briney depths to nom.
In short, players had a cool fight with some interesting choices made such as freezing a big disk underneath the ship which caused the ship to slow considerably and everyone to make a save or be knocked 5ft and prone. (Everyone went down). They came out on top.
However, the Dragonborn barbarian did accidentally launch her maul over the side of the ship, and that being her fav weapon, she went in after it, only to see it had sunk into a blue hole with something huge living in it. Cue her being willing to sacrifice friends to get it back.
One sneaky Yuan Ti later and the Maul was back on board with awkward cuddles and we ended the session there.
