Mashchit, the Angel of Death
הַמַּשְׁחִית
"And my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless."
Exodus 22:24
A Demiurge of vengeance and judgement, Mashchit delivers death not through disaster or cults but at the point of his own sword. He is a shadow that draws across the world to seek those deemed guilty and bring death. No matter who he turns his gaze to, there is only ever a matter of time before guilt is proven to him. He harvests the souls of those he slays and consumes them for power, so that he may kill again, and again, and again. Among the Edenites, he is known as a slayer of children in particular, murdering the firstborn of families for the sin of being born to traitors. Only when he has put every man, woman, and child to the sword will the judgement have been carried out in full.
Though he rarely does, when the Angel of Death appears in the dream of either follower or victim, he does so in the form of a enormous clay tablet enscribed with every judgement the Angel has made against the dreamer. For victims, it is their sentence being told, and to worshippers it's usually a task of some sort. He does little to grow his cults, but they do exist, and his Blessings to them are of swords and poisons. These cults are feared as much among the Adamites as the Edenites, as murderers and poisoners that kill eye to eye for the sake of collecting souls. The most accomplished among them are said to have even assaulted the Garden itself, piercing the Edenite walls with stealth.
"Upon all the bare heights in the desert destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the land to the other; no flesh has peace."
Jeremiah 12:12
When the Angel assumes the aspect of divine death, he appears as a tall man with four black wings and wounds across his body from which eyes peer out. He always carries a black sword that drips with venom, and is an unmatched swordsman. Those who fall beneath the shadow of his wings are cursed to one day meet him, and taste the venom from his blade. His other form is that of a shadow that moves on its own, and through it he can creep through doors and remain hidden - but anyone who near will smell the stench of death from the shadow and stepping on it creates a bitter taste in ones mouth. Protective enchantments can bar this shadow-form from entering, and he is unable to slay those currently studying. As knowledge enlightens the mind, it drives away darkness such as his... But he is patient, and death is inevitable.
Maschit's second form is that of a sword of fine craftsmanship, either gifted to importand or chosen warriors by a mysterious figure, or found upon the battlefield. As the wielder slays his enemies with the blade, it begins to darken and weep poison, ever enhancing the strength of its owner. Once the entire blade has turned black, the Angel consumes the soul of those who hold the sword and inhabits their corpse as a puppet. Adamites are not much safer from judgement than Edenites, but their execution is stayed while they remain useful as corpse-fodder.
As long as he may murder the guilty, Maschit has no grudge against the other Demiurges and frequently works with them. The arrangement is usually mercenary, with the Angel acting as an assassin in exchange for souls, information, or swords. The last has become something of an obsession across the centuries, and it is thought that somewhere, the lair of the Angel is an endless field of swords.
Maschit's greatest desire is to murder Eve by his own hands, and he has made several attempts. Every failure fans the flame of madness in his heart, and only more killing can soothe him.
"That day is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. The sword shall devour and be sated and drink its fill of their blood."
Jeremiah 46:10
