Superbia
Superbia
Plural: Superbi/Superbiae
Latin Origin: Superbia literally means “pride, arrogance, haughtiness.”
“Those who place themselves above life.”
Overview
Superbiae are beings defined by their alignment with the sin of Pride. Both Hellborn and Sinners may become Superbiae if pride dominates their thoughts and actions. In Altivara, most Superbiae reside, as the region amplifies prideful tendencies and fosters transformation. Their presence is a cornerstone of Altivara’s culture, economy, and social hierarchy.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Superbiae are deceptively human-like. Aside from tall horns, pointed ears, and elongated tails, their physical form is ambiguous, reinforcing the idea that pride could lurk within anyone.
They often feel a constant, subtle weight in their chest or head, as if carrying the burden of their own ego.
Behaviour
They obsess over getting small details “just right” — whether it’s the placement of a glass on a table, the precision of their handwriting, or the exact tone they use in a sentence.
If deeply embarrassed, humiliated, or doubted, they withdraw. They’d rather disappear than be seen “less than.”
They develop small, personal rituals that affirm their self-worth — polishing their horn parures daily, checking their reflection before speaking publicly, etc.
They often take on the role of mentor or advisor—but rarely student. If they have to learn, they’ll frame it as rediscovering something they once knew.
