Room 1
In the centre of the room is a huge 20 feet tall bronze statue of the goddess which gleams in what little light is coming through the open doors. The statue stands on a plinth and depicts Nike in her aspect as the winged goddess of victory. She is wearing hoplite armour and hoplon shield, a spear is held in her right hand, and her bronze wings stretch out behind her.
The stone floor is covered in dust, but there appears to be no dust on the likeness of the goddess.
The statue is made of bronze and can only be moved with considerable effort. It would take 30 or 40 humanoids or a team of 15 horses or oxen to move it.
All three doors are unlocked and can be easily opened.
The left doors leads to Room 2
The right doors leads to Room 3
The central doors lead to Room 4
If the heroes do not heed the warning on the tomb's entrance doors and try to remove anything from the tomb, even a copper bit, the statue comes to life and will try to stop the thieves leaving with deadly force.
If the heroes leave the tomb the statue will follow them and attacks anyone who comes within its reach.
Once the bronze statue has animated it can only be stopped with the death of the thieves or by being beaten in combat. If the thieves mange to escape, the statue will pursue them relentlessly, it never tires and never sleeps and will hunt them down even to the ends of the earth.
If the statue is beaten in combat (reduced to 0 hit points) it will acknowledge the victors, the plinth springs back to once again cover the pit, and the goddess returns to her former stance on the plinth and will become inanimate again.
If the statue comes to life, read the following.
At the bottom of the pit, which is 80 feet deep, lie the remains of previous heroes and thieves who perished within the tomb.
It isn't possible to retrieve the deceased or their possessions unless the statue is completely destroyed, which at this time is beyond the powers of the heroes. A wish spell or similar magic is required to accomplish this.
