The Moon Trinity

The Moon Trinity is the Cunang concept of the moon as a trio of divine sisters, Ihe, Ekie, and Oue. While "sisters" is the most common reading, the trinity can also be regarded as one goddess and her different aspects. Typically, Ihe is a more prominent figure in various religious texts and also has a larger number of shrines dedicated to her alone, which is why Cunang scholars recently started to theorise that she is the main deity and Oue and Ekie only aspects of her. This is also supported by the fact that most temples dedicated to the Trinity show Ihe as the central figure, with Oue and Ekie on her right and left side, oftentimes also depicted smaller than Ihe.
