The Abyssal Expedition

Historical Significance

The Abyssal Expedition marked the true end of the Primal Age and the start of the Age of Heroes. To truly understand it must be known that the chaos war had never truly ended. As man grew stronger the war still raged and as Heroes formed they were seen as weapons to help aid the battle. A devil by the name of Asmodeus is who first took advantage.

Hell was losing the battle against the Abyss. Asmodeus crafted a plan to help turn the tide. He whispered into the ears of mortals, told them of the treasures to be won in the abyss. Asmodeus spoken in the ears of kings and queens of the riches, promised glory to the warriors, and promised peace if they could conquer it. Asmodeus set things in motion, a masterful trick that convinced the mortals to march into the Abyss.

Hundreds of thousands of Heroes volunteered for the task. Among them were several future legends, Cayden, Baldr, Sigurd, Remlin, Gildart, Hecate, and many more. They stormed the Abyss traveling into its bottomless pit and endless layers.

The Heroes had been instructed that if they can reach the 99th layer endless wealth and power would be theres. They could for several years, vanquishing many foes and capturing many treasures. During this time Hell mounted an increased war effort on the Abyss. forcing the already unorganized demons to fight a war on two fronts.

The heroes spent many years in the Abyss traveling, long enough that several started families, birthing children into the Abyss who would grow old enough to continue the fight. As they grew close Asmodeus joined them, goading them to travel further.

Finally they reached the 99th layer, the promised destination with endless treasure to be had. Asmodeus led them in and unveiled the final detail of his plan. In the 99th layer of the Abyss resided the treasures they desired but there were powers their that mortals could not withstand. It was then that Asmodeus turned on the Heroes, fighting them and releasing the beast trapped inside. Tiamat. Bound in the last layer of the Abyss to guard it forever, was now free to escape. A fight broke out and a battle was waged. It is unknown how but Asmodeus, Baldr, and Cayden all ascended to Godhood during that fight.

With Tiamat freed and Asmodeus now declaring himself the king of hell, Baldr and Cayden used their new powers to send the expedition back to the mortal plane. They arrived to find the dragons rallying to their god and faced a new challenge. Tiamat had declared war on man and had decreed that the mortal realm would be the new home of the dragons.
