Erastil

"Nature knows no mercy, no peace, no justice. But yet civilization can not match her in her beauty, her serenade, or her love for all children. I ask you, my children to live in both worlds. To honor both sides. May we be the line between the civilized and the wild. That none may hurt the other but rather learn. Please my children, I know this is a hard ask but you are the worthy and we shall achieve great things"
- Erastil's Message to the Homesteads. Traditionally written above every hearth   h2]Summary Called the Hunter or the One Eyed god Erastil is lord over the hunt, farming, trade, and family. He is a lawful good god who rarely interacts with his followers directly but rather gives his approval through nature.

Followship

An elder god, Erastil received dominant followings at the beginnings of Havenmere. As cities have sprouted up his following has suffered minor losses but is still incredibly dominant in many of the small towns still dominated by the wilderness. His followers are seperated into the Hunters and Gathers. Two very distinct groups that share mutual affection for each other. Gathers often operate Homesteads. Small towns that survive off the land and trade with other small villages. Hunters are often more nomadic. They travel from homestead to homestead providing valued commodities in exchange for shelter.

History

Erastil is one of the old gods. When the forces of chaos struck the realms Erastil is one of the gods that rejected it to instead retain his lawful status. He fought bravely in the war against chaos and it was there that he lost one of his eyes in battle. After the war settled he claimed hunting as his domain to ensure that those he felt were worthy would not fall victim to the forces of chaos.

Tenets of Faith

All followers of Erastil are expected to be individualistic, honorable, and generous. They should not expect help from their god but be gratefully if they receive it.

The Word of the Hunter

The children of Erastil who are prone to the hunt bear a special burden. Their creed is as follows.
  • Never harm those who would call themselves packmates
  • A kill is only noble if the hunt reflex the character and honor of the hunter
  • Prey may be killed in anyway. If you hunt a predator they deserve a death fitting of a fellow hunter. Give them honor.
  • Take only what you must and distribute the rest among the pack.
  • If a huntmate is not fortunate in their journey let them eat. If a huntmate lazy and does not honor his hunt give him no food.
  • Treat those who do not hunt with respect if it is earned. But do not let them share in the most sacred traditions of the one eyed god

The Word of the Gatherer

Those followers of Erastil not called to hunt are the Gathers. These are farmers, tradesman, and clergy. They carry a strong role in the homestead.
  • Make dealings and trades with a loose heart, a firm purse, and a tight eye. Do no harm to others but do not expect the same in return.
  • Give thanks for all that grows and when there is little give thanks for all there has been. The one eyed god will not forsake us.
  • When a tired hunter comes give to them the grain they need to get their kill. They will share their boons with you and together you shall rejoice.
  • Treat the land as one of your own. For we are all the children of Erastil and he has given us these plots to nourish as he nourishes us through them.
  • Give all that you can to the gathers around you in a bad year. Their children shall remember the gift and when they grow old they will be repaid the same kindness.
