Aeareledhel

Sea Elves or Aeareledhel are the shortest lived of the Elves only living to maximum 250 years normally more like 150. They are closer in size to humans but still with the Elven grace.   Along with the Minotaurs of the Brogthanian islands they are some of the finest sailors in all Hamanshiron, braving weather only a mad human would try, daring the Galuf straights between Valantaria and Thulos in the dead of winter not something unusual.   Among the Sea Elves, rank is bestowed on those with a number of factors taken into consideration, time at sea being the most important, King Valoeccaia Rairosaumo is in his 100th year at sea, when you take into account he is only 135, and Sea Elves are still teenagers at 35, it is an impressive feat.   He has sailed across the six sea, braved the deepest waters even most of his kin wouldn't, Daring being a key factor in Sea Elf hierarchy, the most daring captain makes the most money and gains the most prestige for their crew.   2nd only to the King is Alieans Gaerthul who is the bookies favorite to take over from the King, (Sea Elves are some of the most compulsive gamblers in the whole of Hamanshiron, many ports have Sea Elf only gambling halls, they can survive on the business of their sailors, who won't destroy the place when they lose) she sailed from the Aeareledhel enclaves in the Sothoun islands to Khalmark in Findallas to deliver a cargo of Shakath Wheat that was late and had 160 days before it would spoil, the crossing would normally take 180 days even for a Sea Elf Clipper, her ship did it in 142.   Their greatest enemy is the Dark Elf corsairs that plague the seas, where the great Aeareledhel have been counted among some of the greatest sailors the world has ever known the Morieledhel have birthed some of the most ruthless and fearsome Pirates the world has ever known.   Sailors of all races can tell of the despair that comes across those on a ship where the Red serpent and crossed sabres sigil is seen in the distance, every Dark Elf corsair flies that flag to strike fear into their quarry.   Their Dark cousins are why every Sea Elf ship is manned by a minimum of 20 of the Cendeoinhwindë Oinmára, The Watch of the Whirlpool of the Light, the elite warriors of the Sea Elves, dedicated to the protection of all Sea Elfkind.   And whom the rest of the Aeareledhel think are absolutely insane because they are willingly parted from the sea to train from the age of 15, they train for 55 years before they take their first sea voyage after beginning their training.   This is something the rest of their kin find unnatural, and a familial disgrace if anyone joins, hence why they wear masks in front of those not of the Watch as to not compound the shame.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

The Sea Elves facial features are essentially the same as very other Elf in the world though their ears are a little lower, slightly more angular, their jaw a little more defined

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Sea Elves live almost exclusively in their enclaves in the Sothoun islands, but you are more likely to encounter them in a port city or on the Six Seas, as they are sailors and merchants, they rarely set foot on dry land except to trade, and when they do otherwise it is only in dire times.

Average Intelligence

Like most Elves, the Sea Elves have an average IQ a bit higher than humans, Sea Elves around 125 to 130

Civilization and Culture

Common Etiquette Rules

A Sea Elf will only shake your hand on a deal if you have shared a jack of ale with them first, they will only discuss business after you have shared a meal with them. They boast a lot so they expect you to join in with them.

Common Dress Code

Sea Elves when at home for the most part wear a vest, a pair of pantaloons and not much else, it's very warm where they come from and that's enough to cover their modesty, or lack of in the Sea Elves case. On the High Seas they wear what is appropriate to the weather, though sailors in the tropical seas wear leather vests rather than material ones that they wear at home. Soldiers of the watch while at sea wear a scale mail jacket with detachable sleeves and kilts or trousers in a similar design dependent on the weather. Captains of the ships tend to be a little more flamboyant and can be seen dressed in some outrageous garb, Alieans Gaerthul is known to wear an oversized red tricorne and a gold frock coat with over sized cuffs.
