Session 36 - Careful What You Wish For

Adam started asking around town for a store that sold diamonds. He was pointed to a gaudy, expensive store and asked about any diamonds they might have. He was shown to a backroom and given a sales pitch on a diamond that was not fit for the purpose of revivify. He turned them down and asked at the tower instead. They were able to gvie him one diamond which was the only one they had in the entire town.   Yaldranth asked around for any magic items to help with location of people. He was sent to a magic item shop that was layered with old magic. He rang an old dusty bell and immediatly had to jump out the way as part of the ceiling collapsed and a figure fell down. They looked like they hadn't eaten in days, with bloodshot eyes. He asked if Yaldranth was a hallucination, saying he hadn't eaten in a week. Yaldranth gave him money to convince him he was real, to the person's immense gratitude. Yaldranth asked about an item that could track the General of Thay he was trying to find. The person went back into the ceiling an eventually brought down a crystal ball, saying it could help based on the memory he had of the man. Yaldranth asked if he had anything else for tracking, and the man brought another object and a needle, saying the needle would always point towards the object, regardless of distance. He said for payment he wanted a monthly stipend of 150 GP a month. Yaldranth could not afford this and offered to bring him to meet with Starseer Frederick, with Adam to provide food. On the way, he learned the man's name was Jaden Turpentine. On arriving, Yaldranth messaged Adam the situation, getting him to magically create food and water, which Jaden ate an absurd amount of. Yaldranth went off to get Frederick, finding him talking with John about people coordination. He told the Starseer about Jaden's situation, and asked if he could meet to discuss a potential partnership.   The Starseer seemed surprised that someone worked in that store, as they thought people could just walk in and take things. He agreed to meet and they went back to Jaden, finding him trying to eat a lightblub. Frederick asked what his experience was, which was surprisingly detailed in terms of using divination magic to learn the underground structures of the world. Frederick agreed to take him on a probabtion period to help him with the wards he was setting up. Jaden said he would give Yaldranth the items he wanted after this period was over.   With that settled, Yaldranth went into town to look for items. He came across a strange man who offered to sell him a bag of beans. After some haggling, he agreed to sell it for 175 GP, a cow, and a prized possession. They shook on it and Yaldranth felt a strange chill pass through him. Adam quickly cast a detection spell and realised they had just made a deal with a fey. They quickly ran off to a nearby farm and persuaded a cow to leave with them. They fey ran off with payment in tow, throwing the beans at them.   They went back to town, explained what happened, and asked Jurgen to help identify what the beans did. He learned that when planted they would produce a random, chaotic magical effect. They then went back into town to finish the shopping they went in for initially. Jurgen bought items for his teleportation circle, while Yaldranth got coatings for his arrows. He also asked Jurgen about changing the effects of his absorb elements spell to be used with ranged attacks.   Meanwhile, Adam asked Frederick if he could learn anything from people who fought against Thay. He was directed towards Garry, and was recommended to bring someone else along. He brought Yaldranth, and together they walked to an old stone house on a cliff near the outskirts of the city. Upon arriving, they knocked on the door to no response. Looking inside, they saw Garry meditating with a stick on his lap. Adam called out to him, saying they wanted to learn from him. The old fighter seemed excited at this prospect and told them to beat him in single combat. Adam was hesitant, but Yaldranth immediately ran forward and slashed with his swords. After a moment's hesitation Adam ran to the side an fired a bolt of radiant energy at Garry as well. In response, he hit Yaldranth with his stick, forcing him to drop one of his swords. Garry seemed impressed with Yaldranth's attacks, but less so with Adam's magic.   Yaldranth created a fog cloud to escape melee and ran to take a bow off the wall to keep fighting. Adam ran forward and managed to hit Garry with a divine smite before being parried. The old man then retaliated, failing to make Adam to drop his sword, but managed to stun him instead. Garry then attacked them both before preparing for their attacks again.
