Session 34 - Warning, Abseiling May Lead to Assassination

General Summary

Yaldranth ran after Ben, asking for more information on the dragon eyed person. Ben asked if he knew them, to which Yaldranth explained what happened to his village (Jarhanbell). Ben explained that he had been seen near the large sword in the north of the continent (The Great Sword), heading further north to the mountains. The conversation veered towards magic, when Ben realised he owed Jurgen something, and went to look for ivory in the town.   Back in the room, Adam helped Crick calm down, and tried to judge the girl's chances of successfully rappelling down the tower, meanwhile Finn was teaching her how to tie better knots. Adam thought she would probably slip, and tried to convince her not to do it, failing dramatically. Jurgen signalled that he had feather fall ready to go, so Adam went downstairs to wait outside the window if worst came to worst.   Crick started venting to those still in the room about the issues they'd faced. Finn both suggested that he was a bit stupid letting strangers so near them, while also suggesting that if they wanted protection, they could stay with the party. Ben burst back into the room, throwing a scroll of clairvoyance at Jurgen as per their agreement.   Near the window, Alpates had finished her rappel line and started to go out the window. Yaldranth ran over and, realising they couldn't stop her, helped with the belay. She started to descend, but noticed Adam waiting at the bottom, so signalled for the rest to bring her back up. When back in the room, she asked how she could be an adventurer if people were waiting to capture her.   Yaldranth messaged him with magic, explaining what happened. Adam decided to stay where he was in case anything else happened, and out the corner of his eye he saw something move in the dark round a corner, followed by a bird.       John Dungeons continued to follow the figure in front of him, realising from the bandages covering their body and the collar on their neck, they were a member of the Disciples of Charon, the deadliest assassin guild in the continent. They darted into an alleyway, and started removing some of the bandages, revealing old decrepit skin, forming it into a rope. They then climbed onto the rooftops, followed by Dungeons. They moved through the city until they arrived at the tower, where they saw Alpates being raised back into the window.   The assassin cursed and pulled out a sending stone, telling someone that the target had been sighted, and they were waiting for an opportunity. John Dungeons lined up a shot, as his target did the same towards the window.   Back inside the room, Yaldranth told Jurgen what he had learned from Ben, and his suggestion to find someone with scrying to try and pinpoint him. Jurgen theorised he might be heading towards Durandal, but there were also ruins in the area which he might be going to. Hearing them talk, Alpates started signing and asking about their adventuring stories. Yaldranth told the story about how him and Adam had followed and then ran from the bird council.   As Alpates listened, enraptured, a bird flew into the window. Everyone was blasted off their feet by a wave of thunder emanating from the bird. The assassin waiting on the window readied a rifle and aimed at the window. Dungeons aimed, then reaimed, and fired at the rifle. The assassin cursed again and scarmbled to turn and face Dungeons.   Seeing the tower wall crumbling above him, Adam jumped up and started trying to scale the wall. Inside the room, Jurgen was first to recover and looked out the window to try and see any threats. He noticed John Dungeons on the opposite rooftop, and the assassin in front of him. On the ground, another assassin holding a staff was waiting near the tower. He yelled out what he saw at everyone, then summoned a giant hand formed of magic which began to crush the enemy mage.   Yaldranth moved to the hole in the wall, looking at both targets. Adam yelled for him to stay up there and help the others, he would take care of the person on the ground. In response, Yaldranth aimed his bow at the assassin on the far rooftop and fired. The assassin partially deflected it but was still shot.   Adam leapt towards the grappled assassin, seeming to speed up in mid air. He struck his sword towards them, only to be deflected by a magical barrier they conjured. On the rooftop, John Dungeons fired another shot towards the grappled mage, then hid and moved away from the other assassin. In return, they wrapped a cloak around themselves and turned invisible.   The mage in front of Adam tried to flood him with necrotic energy, which he deflected with his sword and prepared an outburst of raidant energy for his next attack. From inside the tower, Finn threw his weapon, and caused it to multiply in mid air, hitting the mage with a barrage of weaponry.   Yaldranth tried to see any trace of the invisible assassin, but couldn't see anything. Jurgen also closed the fist around the mage, starting to crush them. He also shot a bolt of fire at them for good measure. Adam finally stabbed them, finishing them off with a burst of radiant energy. He then ran on top of the building and tried to find the invisible assassin. He was able to get close enought to burn it with more radiant energy, but it didn't reveal itself.   After some tense waiting, they realised the assassin must have fled. John Dungeons revealed himself to Adam, who healed him and immediately collapsed in fatigue after Haste wore off. They got back into the tower, where Adam healed Alpates and hid them further in the room. Adam and Finn asked what happened to the boat, and Dungeons admitted it had been rotated. and explosion from the docks followed soon after. Dungeons stealthed away.   Finn immediately ran off to check on the boat, followed by Dungeons and Jurgen. Adam and Yaldranth stayed behind to keep watch of Crick and Alpates.   When Finn arrived at the docks, he found the ship completely capsized, seawater entering the inside and getting closer to the boiler. He tried to convince a nearby dock worker to use the crane to lift it out the water. Though initially hesitant, he changed his mind after John Dungeons appeared and threatened his cat. Dungeons then winked at a furious Finn and dived into the water. Jurgen cast a spell to allow Finn and himself to breath underwater, letting them right the boat once again. Despite it being stable again, the work had increased to two weeks worth.
