Nawatka
The Nawatka are a unique type of otherworldly beast that exist simultaneously in both the Material and Ethereal realms. As a byproduct of the fluidity of their Essences, they are capable of shifting fully into the Ethereal, allowing them to pass unseen and intangible through the physical world. In their natural state, known as Tashaya, they maintain both a corporeal body and a spiritual essence, granting them the ability to interact with both planes at will. They tend to be reclusive in their corporeal form; if a Nawatka’s physical body is destroyed, it is permanently severed from its Tashaya state.
A Nawatka may also affect the Material Realm by possessing other creatures. However, this possession is limited—while they can exert influence over instincts and emotions, they cannot fully control the actions of intelligent beings. Should it lose its Tashaya state, a Nawatka is reduced to a purely spiritual existence, and is called a Koyasha. In this state, the Nawatka is a weakened, spectral entity that can only interact with the world through possession. Though still dangerous, a Koyasha is forever deprived of its original form and is significantly less powerful than its dual-natured counterpart.
Nawatka are deeply tied to natural cycles and spiritual forces, often regarded as guardians, tricksters, or omens by those who encounter them. Some believe they act as messengers between realms, thought the plane of their origin is a mystery, while others fear the restless Koyasha, whose desperate need to interact with the living may turn them into vengeful spirits. Some cultures train shamans in the act of attracting and inviting possession as a means of channeling a Koyasha's power.
