Snake Gem
Snake Gems are gemstones produces from the bodies of people infected with Gem Plague. Snake Gems are harder than iron and are quite durable, allowing them to be worked into weapons and armor.
Snake Gems mimic all different kinds of normal gemstones, though the visual difference is purely aesthetic. The visual appearance of the gem is determined by the species, health, age, and diet of the infected person (this is not known to most people).
Snake Gems are a divisive material. Some groups, such as the Mathari Empire, cultivate "gem farms" on a large scale via slavery, war captives, and as a criminal punishment - mass producing these Snake Gems for use in weapons and armor. Other groups consider Snake Gems to be spiritually unclean and refuse to use them.
