Nemeses

To the God Squad, they are the Nemeses. The old Prophecies call them the Adversaries. Many call them the Apocalypses.   These are essentially dark mirrors of The Architects, manifested in four young people who have been suddenly given vast powers and a mandate to destroy. These chosen Adversaries are really just lenses through which their dread powers move into the world. Each Adversary has their own flavor of doomsday:
  • Safia, the False Halcyon, also called The Empress, corrupts and defiles everything that falls under her power. She makes monsters, turns mortals into beastly servants, enchants cursed items, and bestows corrupting powers and 'gifts' to her supplicants. She is a powermad despot who seeks absolute power over all things. Of the Nemeses, she is the least subtle and the most hateful.
  • Verkon, The False Chimera, also called the Idol or the Nightmare, is everywhere and nowhere at once. He subtly empowers and influences mortals who commune with him, creating webs of cults and conspiracies to do his bidding. The more the line between dream and reality blurs, the stronger his power over a place or person becomes.
  • Kasmir, the Rot, considers his work to be that of Death closing shop on the world. All he touches decays, a perpetual storm rages around him, and disease pours from him. The Rot Plague, a perpetually-mutating disease that uses the power of the lives it takes to create titanic monsters known as Plague Engines, is the primary vehicle of the Rot.
  • Dina, the Martyr, is the least malevolent and most subtle of the Adversaries. The Martyr's work is gentle: taking away pain and welcoming people into a tranquil hive mind. The Martyr and their Followers work miracles, but every miracle burns away some amount of life on the planet - the greater the miracle, the more the planet dies. The Martyr seeks to welcome the people of the world into an eternal paradise, and the Hive Mind wages war against any who oppose their Martyr's vision. And while the Martyr and Mind seem to want to make a new world, there is likely some mechanism to prevent them from ever succeeding - these powers are rigged against them.
So, four apocalypses. They are supposed to be united by a coordinator, called The Observer, but old Obbie hasn't shown up to work and the Apocalypses have already started to squabble.
  • The Martyr considers the Empress to be an existential threat and has at least claimed to be willing to work against all of the other Nemeses
  • The Empress despises the Martyr and actively wants to sabotage them
  • The Nightmare and the Rot despise each other and may be willing to act against each other
While these entities seem unable to fully kill each other or engage in direct violence, they are far from a united front and can undermine each other in more indirect ways.    The Lunar Challengers are dark mirrors to The Lunar Pantheon that can channel the powers of the Nemeses on their own - mixing and directing these dark powers on their own terms. They also have their own agendas to pursue, making them highly potent but even less reliable wrecking balls that could be more dangerous (as they aren't held back by the Nemeses' beliefs, flaws, or infighting) or less dangerous (as they have even fewer compulsions to actually kill everything) than their masters.
