Detect Magic
The Detect Magic spell can be cast in many different ways, by divine and arcane spellcasters alike. Even warriors sworn to a Lunar God can cast a version of this spell.
No matter how this spell is cast, the effects are the same: the user can detect the presence of all magic in 30 feet as a faint aura. If a spell is detected this way, Detect Magic reveals its school of magic.
The Detect Magic spell can be sustained for 10 minutes before it stops. It can also be cast as a 'ritual', allowing a caster to spend no magical energy or resources during casting as long as they take 10 minutes to gather magical energy.
No one in God Squad can cast this spell currently.
This spell's commonality across magical disciplines and ease of access makes it a favorite of major institutions and powerful organizations. Many royal courts, religious centers, and major banks keep committed Detect Magic casters on call, whose jobs are simply to alternate casting this spell at critical locations.
Particularly powerful groups commission magical items to replicate this spell's effect constantly, or use hidden casters to try and sniff out unauthorized or malicious magic.
While this spell is probably one of the most cast worldwide, it is not something that any random person can cast - even in ritual form. Casters still require a professional level of magical expertise and a foundation of magical knowledge, so a small town's general store probably isn't going to have a committed spell detector on hire.
In recent decades, with magical education on the rise worldwide, some magical institutions have started innovating hyper-specialized magical training programs focused on only one particular spell or another. Detect Magic has been a common choice for these programs given the high demand. This has opened up 'magic detector' as a job in major cities that is open to those without the wealth, time, or opportunity required for a full magical art. While often quite repetetive and taxing, this work is often in high demand and linked to higher status than most common jobs.
