Obaez Hajib Teashop

An innocent tea shop with the smell of fuming leaves and the sweet cactus sap, it is nothing one would expect anyone but a religious aunt to frequent. Yet the mark of theBlack Ember Guild is there for anyone who recognizes it. And through the hanging silken tapestries and copious beads, there is a whole different world. It’s warm inside, hot and humid like every other part of the wretched jungle. It’s dark though, which is always appreciated in the midday sun. Thick red cloth hangs from the ceiling, draped over the cracks in the wood. In this case, it seems to be practical instead of decorative, muffling the sound and keeping the light out. The ceiling is high, though how high could be a subject of debate in the night-like dark. There is a smell of incense and the smoke of Drekar Fjöllan herbs that fill one’s head with a pleasant dizziness. The wooden floor is rotting as it curves upward towards the walls, but it’s covered with enough thick woolen carpets that no one would notice.   The center of the establishment is empty, the patrons scattered along the walls in their separate areas. Heavy curtains section off recesses of the room. The cushions within the curtains hold motley groups of people clothed in the Aelgari fashion, colorful cloth and beads unending. Yet for all their thin jungle-adapted robes, there are but a few faces without a mask. The black masks glint in the stabbing shards of sunlight and murmurs escape from the clutches of the curtains and carpets. Sticks of copper obaezi and gleaming jewels exchange hands like a game of cards. Trays line the sectioned-off eating areas and stone cups are filled with icy tea. The masked patrons use spongy injera bread to scoop up spiced meats and softened jungle leaves. Northern herbs and Rauhiri pipes are passed around with little notice.

Purpose / Function

The teashop is a place of meeting. It is a place for discreet deals and hidden contracts. A safehouse for Embers, the teashop is a headquarters for interactions with those who do not belong to the Guild. It is designed to be the safest place for elite thieves to safely interact with their patrons and acquire new jobs.

Architecture

The teashop itself is in the traditional Aelgari style, to fit in with the other inhabitants of Maeluja. Yet the hall concealed behind it is in ancient and foreign, its great size hidden in the vines.
