Description
Think about combat in terms of sports, where each side has a clear goal and takes a series of actions to try to reach it, opposed either simultaneously or in sequence by another player or team, but they are not killing each other.
Example:
A strand of the Nephesh is the goal, and Fallen and Guardians maneuver to throw a "ball" into it, each blocking each other's shots.
Quidditch, everyone flies around and tries to catch a ball, then throw it through a hoop. (A special tiny ball is also special)
American football, two teams struggle to get a ball to one end of the field or the other. Only one person out of 22 total is normally touching the ball, but everyone is concerned with where it is, who has it, where it is going next, and what everyone else is doing to try to prevent or facilitate that movement.
Problem this is trying to solve
Making the actions taken in combat relatable and interesting - but not cheesy
