  Chapter 23 TESTING BY FIRE

Description

Fire burns the Nehphesh, and can do so to a positive or negative outcome.
A positive outcome will be like a forest fire that allows fresh growth without all of the overgrown tangle. A negative outcome will be like a fire that completely destroys an important structure or creates a hardened, dead surface over a vulnerable plant that cause it to grow misshapen or lack the nutrients it needs.
In combat, the Fallen could attack with fiery darts of Version meant to disfigure and destroy. The Guardian could decide to inject Versal into the attacks transforming them into a nuclear missile of change that burns with the pain of the enemy but carries the promise of life.
This could be a high-risk, high-reward maneuver in which the efforts of the enemy are co-opted for good but with a chance of the target not perceiving them as such. A target more in tune with the nature of God will be more likely to benefit, while one far from God's wisdom will almost certainly ignore the productive part of the message but accept the destructive.
A Spiritkind will become highly resistant to any attacks of the Fallen that are influenced in this manner, allowing them to experience much trial and hardship without damaging their nephesh.

Example:

Fallen Attacks with: Woeful Accusation - "Your daughter's death is your fault."
(Guardian can choose to attempt to block the attack or influence it. Blocking it uses a lot of authority, but has a high chance of success. Influencing it uses less authority and is more effective, because the target will learn from the attack, not be sheltered from it, but has less of a chance of a positive outcome.)
Guardian chooses to inject Versal: Salvation Defeats Death -"Your daughter is safe in heaven."
Positive Outcome: Human chooses to accept only the truth, and their faith grows.
Negative Outcome: Human chooses to accept only the lie, and their faith diminishes.

Problem this is trying to solve

Providing meaningful choice in combat. "Do I protect the pawn, or put it at risk to perhaps gain a bishop?"
Lack of variety in combat action. Defend, Attack, or Nothing, is not ideal.

GY: From my standpoint, this is excellent.
