Witherling

"For a long time, the witherlings held the world in fear, until an unnamed hero found the Drop of the Sun. The shadows of the gods shunned that bright light, and mere touch of its beam broke the witherlings into dust that the fresh winds blew away into the depths of the oceans.
"The hero spent their life traveling the world and carrying the light. As the years passed, the witherlings faded from existence, and slowly, fear was forgotten as life returned to how it had been, the shadows of the past fading from memory to stories."

In Ager, people believe that witherlings were born when Smith's son, Kal'han, cut off the shadows of the gods, and these shadows killed all the encountered. Those that died came back to life as witherlings, cursed beings that were highly aggressive and whose magic was twisted. Some writings say that those killed by witherlings are doomed to turn into one, themselves.
According to some elves, witherlings are cursed by Thiamalán, one born of the deepest shadows of Shar, and that these undead believe that once Thiamalán is freed and takes over the world, they will release them from their curse to repay their help.

Physical Description

Witherlings are undead humanoids that come in many shapes, sizes, and conditions. Some are well-preserved, the only details giving away their status being the hue of their skin and the inability to communicate despite being able to understand the languages in knew in life. Most often, witherlings are clearly not alive, features sunken, muscles withered, and their movement sharp. Often times, their clothes and armour are of poor quality after ages spent at the mercy of time, but they have the mind to find new weapons to use, while new attires rarely get even the first thought.

Magic

While most witherlings do not know magic, those that did control the flow of the currents in life are often capable of doing so in death. Their magic becomes twisted and necrotic, and even those who dedicated their lives to healing find it easier to hurt others; they are, however, capable of healing their own, should they feel the need to do so.

Behaviour

While not retaining all of their intelligence from life, they understand language and are capable of following orders; it's also possible, though not confirmed, that they are able to communicate amont themselves to make simple plans.
Witherlings live for blood and death, and do not feel the need to show mercy to those they encounter. Beast and humanoid in kind fall by their hand if they cannot bring the undead down first, and as they usually move in hordes, lone travelers would do well to escape upon seeing their approach. Their habit of staying with their kind is unlikely due to a social or even survival need, but as witherlings often are born in areas of plenty of death, they begin to move in the same direction.

Distribution

Witherlings are not a common sight anywhere in the world, but one is most likely to encounter them in Agar, which lends to the credibility of the theory that they are originally made by Kal'han's actions. These creatures usually begin to raise when there is great unrest in the world, though whether it is because the unrest somehow lends energy to them or if the various parties involved bring them back is not known. They can be encountered in land and on sea, though more common in former, and there are stories of old ships manned by crews of witherlings.
